Hi all, I'm considering installing IE8 on my Vista box but since it's still in beta form, I wanted to know if I could easily revert back to IE7 incase something doesn't agree with it. Is it possible to revert back by simply uninstalling it in the Add/Remove programs window?
Edit: I knew that was a silly question... On the IE8 page there is info displayed for that when you click the "What does beta mean?" link.
I've used IE8 on Windows 7 and so far am happy with it so that's why I wanted to update my Vista box with IE8.

I'm running IE8 on my V64 lappy. It's been about a week and so far so good. I didn't like it at first but a few other users showed me the error of my ways. Compatibility View (for displaying certain webpages) and the Suggested Sites are good features.

IE8 is great, and it makes use of Vista's security features, unlike Firefox. It's got nice features (Accelerators!) and a completely new kernel - it's rather snappy.
I use it on my 64-bit desktop, and the only issue is having to run the 32-bit version of it to use Flash. =P -
It's not in Programs but in Installed Updates. My IE8 experience was better on Win7 than on .Vista. Hangs randomly and Recovery Tab feature doesn't work.

Hi, my name's Cody, and I'm working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team to help answer questions folks might have about the browser.
IE8 operates more like an update to the operating system itself rather than a separate program, but here's how to "uninstall" it in case of a problem:
Open Control Panel and click Programs.
Click Programs and Features, and click View installed updates, and then select Windows Internet Explorer 8.
Click Uninstall this update.
Your machine should then revert back to its prior IE7 existence without a hitch! For more info on Internet Explorer 8, make sure you check out the official site at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/worldwide-sites.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_a
I hope this is helpful!
Thanks,
Cody

Thanks for the tip, Cody!

IE8 is a pain. It crashed 4 times within 3 days... Pages aren't decoded properly as well. Pictures not loading, etc. Running it using Windows 7.. Maybe it's because of my old machine. Windows 7 has been smooth on it thou. Just not IE8.

No problem, EnterKnight! I hope it has helpful. lunateck, if the Internet Explorer 8 Beta was giving you problems(betas can sometimes be notoriously finicky) , you might want to try upgrading to the Internet Explorer 8 RC1 that was released yesterday. It's a release candidate, which means it is much more stable than a beta edition. Here's a link for the download: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/worldwide-sites.aspx?ocid=ie8_sm_a
Thanks,
Cody

Just installed the Release Candidate and the transition went smooth.
Looks very nice. -
Any idea when Windows 7 will see the RC1 candidate hit? So far in my usage of Windows 7, IE8 works very well, with the odd flickering of web pages when scrolling through long pages which is very rare. I've only noticed that problem 2 times in the span of 2 weeks. -
dbam987-
Nope, no concrete news yet about when the RC1 will come out for Windows 7. About that flickering thing, the only suggestion I'd make is maybe try running those particular sites in compatibility mode. But hey, it's a beta browser on a beta OS, so it really could be a whole number of things! Glad to hear you guys are enjoying your test drives, though.
Cheers,
Cody

I just downloaded the new IE8-RC1, and now have a problem I didn't have with IE8-Beta -- apparently my new IE8-RC1 is running with add-ons disabled, and I can't figure out how to change it to have it run with add-ons enabled. There is a yellow Active X information bar at the top of EVERY page of EVERY website I go to -- (really annoying!!!) that says "Internet Explorer is currently running with add-ons disabled.)
In the Start Menu, the only IE option is the one with add-ons disabled. There's no option to change, or to change it in the C Drive. I tried to turn off the Information Bar, but that "fix" didn't take. I even tried to uninstall IE8 and reinstall it, but IE doesn't even show up in the Programs and Features Menu, not even under Updates. I'm really stumped. Cody can you please tell me how to switch over to IE running with add-ons? -

That happened to me as well when I upgraded. I think it is a fairly common problem that happening for folks that upgraded to RC1. I'm definitely no technical expert, but hopefully I can at least point you towards some resources that can help you out.
Here's Microsoft's advice on solving the problem (it's what fixed my issue, and we're running similar systems, so this might work for you too):
"If you receive a message that all add-ons are disabled every time you start Internet Explorer, follow these steps to help resolve the problem:
In Internet Explorer, click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset. Follow any on-screen directions.
Close and re-open Internet Explorer."
If this doesn't get things working again, let me know and I'll see if I can dig up some other possible solutions for you!
Thanks,
Cody

The only other issue I have when using IE8 is the drop down address/url /history bar. I would prefer it to act exactly as it does in IE7, without the extra categories. I find myself having to type the first letter or two of where I want to go (provided it's in my history)... and this is a major pain in the butt. I prefer to hit dropdown arrow and click on my nice tidy little address bar history. If I have a need to go to another site, then I'll type in the url if I know it, or google what I need. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO MAKE IE8 WORK THIS WAY?
Thanks in advance. -

Weird, IE8 (upgraded from IE7) works fine for me.

Hey, glad to hear things got worked out, even if we don't know why! hovercraftdriver, I'm a little confused as to what you're trying to do. Are you simply trying to erase the history and favorites categories from the URL bar? If you just want to reduce the number of URL's on the bar (from address misspellings and such), you can just click on the red "X" that appears on the right when you highlight a URL. To remove the history/favorites categories You can also go to "Tools" then "Internet Options" then click the "Content" tab. From there, click on the "Settings" button next to the "AutoComplete" section. You can then uncheck the "Browsing History" and "Favorites" boxes, and it should simplify your menu back to a style closer resembling the one found in IE7.
Let me know if this answered your question!
Thanks,
Cody

That's what I get for trying to answer your question right before I've hit my coffee quota for the day. Glad to see that you got your browser tweaked the way you like it!

Hi Cody, I am experiencing a problem with IE8 Release Candidate 1 "forgetting" cookies. For example, when I sign in to this website, I check to make sure that the "remember me" option is checked so that I don't have to keep entering in my credentials. But, for some reason it seems to forget after a short while what my credentials are. This happens on several sites I frequent. I haven't pinpointed the exact actions that I'm doing that could cause this yet, but are there any things that pop in your mind on what could be causing this?
Thanks in advance!

Edit: I think this same problem was mentioned on another thread, but can't remember which one. -
dbam987-
My immediate reaction to your problem would be to suggest that you run the website(s) in compatibility mode. If the problem isn't limited to just this site and happens on every page you visit, there could be all kinds of things causing the problem. If that's the case, let me know, and I'll see if I can dig up some more info.
Thanks,
Cody

I had problems with it remembering that I was logged in to my hotmail account, and on this site too ( www.notebookreview.com).
I'll play around with it some more, as it doesn't always happen. I think I tried only non-compatibility mode with them only.
