I'm about to format my HD and re-install Vista. I'm going to backup all my data files first and any program installation files. What I'm wondering is there a way to get a list of all the programs currently installed so when I start installing again I don't miss something?

Not much of the point of a reformat, install them as you need them.

Best solution I can come up with is to do a screen dump of your Programs and Features folder (or Add/remove programs if you're on XP) in the control panel, paste it into paint and print it out.

CCleaner can export a list for you in text format.

In the past I've down like paul_r_d and just did a screen grab and saved the image file so that I could make sure I reinstalled everything. AKAJohnDoe has another good suggestion.

A DIR of PROGRAM FILES will not neccessarily find them all, but will find most of them.

MyUninstaller by NirSoft is a great little free program that will do this. You can export to text or html. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html

It also gives quite a bit of information about installed programs - Install date, location, support address, last used, etc and delete add/remove entries.

That's so interesting. The more that I play around with it or come to the board, the more stuff that I'm learning CCleaner can do. It's really a wonderful program.

CCleaner is one of the select few; the free programs that work very well and are reliable. Others in the category include: Firefox; FileZilla; and RocketDock. There may be others, but this is not really the thread for that topic, those are simply the ones I have installed.

It is an FTP client. I switched to it when FireFTP was not yet ready for FireFox 3. BTW, FireFTP is now FF3-ready.

What the heck do you use it for if you're going to reformat?

FYI: I got tired of FileZilla erroring out and not telling on what or why or retrying or even keeping track of what did not complete, so I deinstalled it.

I now have a 30 day trial of CuteFTP (which I have used before) and will likely purchase it.

Yeah, I'm starting to get fed up with FileZilla. It works most of the time, it just has these little annoyances. I am ready to just buy FlashFXP.
