So I just noticed yesterday after I did a clean install of XP and put on MS office 2007, that MS Office 2007 takes up 1.2 GB. But the folder in program files only takes about 600MB.

Then I saw the hidden directory of MSOCache in the C:. It contains what seems to be all the install files. Then I found the same thing for Nero8. Is there a reason that these files are not deleted from the HDD? To me it seems like they are just sitting there taking up space. Is it ok to delete these things?

    thnx

Thats the kinda info i needed. but for some reason i can't find anything on office 2007, only th program to remove the files for 2003.

And I don't want to just go and erase the files, cuz it won't be removed from registry.

From all evidence Office 2007 is built upon Office 2003.

If you are concerned about errant registry entries, uninstall 2007 and reinstall. Be sure to uncheck "Cache installation files" during the installation.

I believe that if you do that, subsequent updates, including fixes, to Office might require that the installation CD be available to proceed. The MSOCACHE folder is a substitute for mounting the office installation CD.

For some reason I was never given the option of unchecking "cache installation files" that part never came up. even when I chose to do the custom installation. ..weird. 500mb aint much, but when i only have 3 gb left on the c drive it makes a difference.
