I have been using SiW for some time and it's really useful so far. When I got to know Everest, I wanted to try and compare it with SiW. I downloaded Everest and installed it. The installation was successful; however, upon running it. I got a BSOD stating the below info:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appers again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for the driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory optios such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Options, and then Select Safe Mode.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xB0DFEAD8, 0xBDEA1904, 0x00000000
*** kernel.wnt - Address B0FEAD8 base at B0DFE000, Datestamp 42e505e2
After this BSOD, all I can do is to hit the power button to restart. So that was what I did. Since my notebook was not properly shut down, there's this message upon boot-up saying if I wanted to start in Safe Mode. I chose Start Windows Normally. When I was already in my Desktop, at first I thought maybe the new RAM I installed was defective since I upgraded from 2GB to 6GB (2gb ddr3-1333mhz + 4gb ddr3-1333mhz although only 2.67GB is usable since I'm still running 32-bit). I right-clicked My Computer and it seems that everything's fine and detected, no issues at all. I also tried installing and running other programmes, works all well, no issues at all. I did some other things like surfing the net, typing docs, and BSOD didn't recur.
Now, since everything seemed fine, I thought of opening Everest again. Just like what happened earlier, upon running Everest, I got the same BSOD. This time, I'm quite convinced that the BSOD is triggered by installing Everest because, apparently, Everest has some links in updating the BIOS, overclocking your RAM, and other "overboard" measures which probably pose risks to the default security measures of my notebook's BIOS, and other settings. Upon boot-up, I deleted Everest using Revo uninstaller via advanced mode. After which, I tried surfing the net again and other things, no BSOD.
For the last time just to validate things, I tried downloading everest in other site which I thought would not be the same as the other Everest installer I downloaded from other links. I also wanted to try Everest since I never got to fully run it due to the two BSODs that kept on popping every time I run the application. So after downloading, I ran and installed it. It was a RAR file. I opened Everest via RAR, and it worked! I was able to explore Everest a bit; but when it asked for the Administrator account and asked to extract the RAR to fully install Everest I got a BSOD again with the exact above message.
This time, I concluded that it's Everest causing the BSOD so I got rid of it via Revo Uninstaller again and deleted also its installer. No more BSODs now...phew...
My question is, what seems to be the problem with Everest why I receive BSODs upon running it? Does Everest alter my BIOS settings and force them to update? Does Everest change some configurations upon running it? Why is it everything seems normal, no BSODs, without running Everest? Is Everest designed to be this destructive? Please enlighten me.
Thanks in advance, guys.
