    Hello,
First off I’m sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, and I am sorry if there is already a thread on how to accomplish this (I looked and could find one).

I recently purchase an EEE 900 HA pc, and before I go home to open my new toy I would like to ask for some advice. I have Windows Word 2003 and I would obviously like to install this onto my new baby, but since the computer lacks a optical drive this poses a potential problem (one I was well aware of). What would be the best way to install word onto my new computer; I have a few possible tools at my disposal. I have my real laptop (specs in the sig) a 320 GB external HDD, and a 512 mb flash drive. Thanks for any help

    So many possible solutions.
-Network the two laptops, share the optical drive on the "real" laptop, map the share on the EEEPC as a network drive, install from there.
-Copy the files from the install CD to the external hard drive, and install from there
-Download the trial on the EEEPC and enter your key.

Which would you like more info on?

There are more options but they involve tools beyond what is at your disposal.

Thank You so much for the reply.
Well the second method was the one I was leaning towards. So would i basically install word onto that HDD and then run the set up on the EEE pc. Just wanted to make sure I understood the process correctly.

No, don't install it to the external hard drive.
Just plug in the external hard drive to the Toshiba, and open it in Windows Explorer. Make a folder called "Office 2003"
Then insert the office disk and close anything that automatically runs (the installer). Open "My Computer" and right click "OFFICE_11" or whatever it's called, and select "Explore." Highlight everything and drag it to the "Office 2003" folder.
Once all of the files copy, plug the external into the EEEPC. Run the setup.exe in the Office 2003 folder, and install like you normally would.

How I did it: Copy the Office disk to a flash drive and click the setup app on the flash drive. Then, it will install.

You can also rip the cd and then mount it as a cdimage on your eeepc. On the acer aspire one, install from the virtual cd/dvd rom.

Create an image file (iso) from the disk to the USB (or the external drive) using ImgBurn on the Toshiba and install it on the EEE using Daemon Tools Lite.

yup.. thats what I do as well when dealing with non-optical drive systems.

all about using ISO's of software and mounting them onto Daemon Tools. :)
