Has anyone tried installing Ubuntu in Vista or XP as a virtual machine with any success? I can get it to start installing and to boot up, but it seems like I can't input anything (mouse or keyboard) to the OS. Anyone experienced with Virtual Machines please give your comments. Thanks!

Well, I know someone who installed Debian (Ubuntu is based on Debian but is FAR heavier) on his XP, I think he also managed to install it on his Vista.
I think you have to focus on the Window.
Which virtual machine you are using ?

I know that you can just download the VMWare player and a pre-created Ubuntu image from www.vmware.com. Is there a problem with doing that?

Well I was trying to use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 since it is free. I could get it installed, but it seemed like there were graphic issues. I'll have to play around with it some more when I get the chance. This is a new realm for me, and it seems fun, just need some time.

    Thanks for the replies.

I'll second VMWare. Worked great for me under XP and Ubuntu.

VMWare is also free, FYI. It also works better according to everyone I know that knows anything about virtualization.

for get ubuntu to work in VPC 2007 you need to set it up from a shell setup (not graphic) and configure the video to be a 16 bits colors (and not 32)
