I've tried just about every walkthrough and tutorial that Google can muster, but I might as well ask you guys.

So I want to install a custom theme, from DeviantArt. I have Vista Service Pack 1.

I got VistaGlazz 1.1. I used both patches that it does. They obviously worked, because maximizing a webpage still keeps the transparency. So I can't imagine anything wrong happened with that.

I went to put the files in the Themes folder, but I still can't change the themes. The skin I want doesn't come with .theme file, nor does it have a en-US folder. Are these necessary? If so, why don't several other skins have them? If I click the .msstyles file in the folder for the skin I want, nothing happens. It opens the Themes page, but I don't have any extra skins show up, nor do I get a Theme Settings page, nor are there any duplicates of pre-existing themes that show up. Nothing happens.

Can anyone take a gander at what I'm doing wrong?

After clicking the msstyles, open the classic appearance. Click on all of the "aero" themes. One of them should be your new theme

I would go with AsuraSky. Tune-up Utilities does everything for you, all you do is point it towards the theme and away you go, theme installed. It isn't free but it comes with a 30 day unlimited trial.

There is a website that is offering the 2007 version free. Google tuneup utilities 2007 free and it should be there 6 results down. It's legal, but the website offering it won't allow it to be linked anywhere.
