I already have the Home edition, but it was just a borrowed one and the grace period has run out.

So now I'm installing XP Pro, do I have to reformat?

Yes, it's a completely different installation so you have to do it fresh. It's not an upgrade where you keep the initial OS intact and you just add an upgrade.

Aw **** :/ Better break out the DVD-RWs. What's a good way of backing everything up?

Would I be better off using Tiny XP if I'm reformatting? Anyone know where I can get it from?

The cheapest way to back up is simply to burn all your files on to a CDs DVDs.

As with reformatting, you need to install the relavent drivers after reformatting.

Yes, you can do an upgrade from XP Home > Pro. I know as I did it last year ;) You can upgrade to Pro from any previous OS except MCE

But I think the consensus is still to do a proper install to ensure everything is perfect. Something about potential conflicts

On another note, nice forum name! :p ^^
