I just got a new Lenovo y580, the version with the 1 TB HDD and a 16 gb SSD. I also bought a 256gb crucial m4 msata ssdIII. All I want to do is put a fresh install of Windows 8 on this SSD, but it's seeming to be impossible.
I need to have an ISO to install that matches my current version of Windows 8 in order to use my product key, because it's built into the BIOS, but I can't get that ISO without a product key.
My other option is create a back up on a USB drive and then boot from that and install it onto the SSD, but no matter what I do this is not working, something a lot of people seem to be having problems with.
When I try to use the recovery to boot I will disconnect my HDD and try reset or every option in Advanced Options, but it either says The Drive is locked, A necessary partition is missing, or it can't find the recovery disk image. I've seen a lot of other people having that same issue who are trying to install Windows 8 on a computer that came with a HDD and an SSD.
Does anyone know of a place I can download the ISO without having to pay again? I can get the version with the 90 day trial installed on the SSD and that works, but I need to delete the partition with the System otherwise it keeps messing up and rebooting on the old HDD OS and I don't want to risk doing that with just a 90 day trial. This is turning into such a hassle.
This is my first Windows computer and so far this is not boding well. I've had this computer for a week now and have spent hours and hours just trying to get the OS working.

First, use magical jelly bean keyfinder (just google it) and nab the OS license from the registry, it may be different than the one on your machine.
Try using this method here: How to re-download the Windows 8 ISO -
Otherwise ask Lenovo how you can do a clean install of Windows 8, if it's possible off their CD or if it only will do the image restore. -
Anyway, after that I spent two hours getting bounced between lenovo and multiple windows tech support people continually being referred to another and windows pointing the finger at lenovo; lenovo saying I need to get the information from Windows.
Another new addition is, I just decided to try to try the Windows 8 version you pay for, after downloading it says that unfortunately "Windows 8 is not available for download in my country/region"... I am in New Jersey right now. -
I guess I'm just going to use the version with the 90 day trial for now and see how things shape up over the next few weeks. The problem there though was that for whatever reason my disk drive wasn't working with that version and I couldn't install any of the games I want to play, the whole reason I got a Windows computer in the first place.
