If I have backup XP CD that came with the laptop, if I need to re - install XP do I need just the CD or they were supposed to sent me some serial number or somesuch similiar verification mechanism?

Or I just pop it in CD Drive when the HD of my computer is blank and I'm all set?

It appears that there is a sticker on the back of my laptop that says Windows XP Home Edition and has a 25 digit - and - letter product key.

You're good to go then. The restore CD may ask you to type in that 25 digit key. Otherwise it already has the key embedded in the CD.

Either way it's very straightforward. Just boot from the CD and follow the onscreen instructions.
