My new notebook is arriving on Friday (hopefully) and I will be installing Windows XP Pro 32-bit on the machine.
Do you have any tips as to the install options I should chose and what tweaks I can do to optimize it after the install? Should I shut down/remove from startup some unnecessary services and if so, which ones?

What notebook is it??
Anyways, take a look here:

Arkit' clean install guide > http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=188992
*There are other Windows XP Guides too... it would be more helpful if you could say what notebook make you are getting, what is the OS that is in the notebook you are getting?, do you want to downgrade from Vista to XP? and such details.
Thanks. -
Welcome to 2008, feel free to search the website and Internet before asking this question.
However, if you have a specific service/tweak you need looked into by those who know better, we're here to help. -
Thanks - these seem to be very useful. I will definitely peruse them!
The notebook is Sager NP5793:
Intel Core 2 Duo P8100 2.1GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS
4GB DDR2 667MHz RAM
500GB 5400 rpm HDD
17" WUXGA
There is no OS installed on it at all. -
Well, I am not much of an expert on this at all, so I prefer to get tips, like fonduekid gave me, towards good guides from some of you experienced users, rather than getting burnt by finding some kind of random guide and messing something up.
