Awhile ago, I remember I downloaded a desktop add-on that was similar to Rainmeter, except it was more simplified by showing only the date and time. I've been searching around but I've had no luck. Anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

I recommend just using Rainmeter just in case you ever feel like adding more to your desktop :)
