Simply put: Will the Core 2 Duo work with XP Home? I've read some articles that say XP Home doesn't support dual processors or dual cores. I'm just trying to decide if I can stick with Home or if I need to switch to Pro.

    Thanks,
    -Taylor

It's not that XP won't work with a C2D it's just that it isn't optimized for one... but I know there's a patch somewhere that can fix that.

Does that mean that it will have trouble handling dual-core technology?

    Home will be fine.

It's not Licensed for 2 Sockets. So lets just say you have a dual socket system Home will only show 1 CPU.

Pro is licensed for 2 sockets.

No, there's a difference between sockets and "cores." XP Home and Vista Home Premium can both use dual-core CPUs, but Vista uses them better.

Yes there is a dual core hotfix for windows XP, microsoft released it last year. There is a topic on the forums that deals with optimizing XP for dual cores and you can find it here.

Yes, it will. It won't have as many functions, but the performance benchmarks should be identical. The core OS is the same, they just put random limitations on different versions to try to milk more money out of people.
