1. Latest USB 3.0 Drivers for RENESAS are actually HERE 2.1.32.0
2. For full chipset driver reinstallation you can just create a shortcut of Setup.exe and add -overall in object tab. No need for cmd.
3. Actually you don't need to install chipset drivers if your OS already been working fine for some time. It's not actual drivers. It's just giving proper name for all devices so OS would know what it's dealing with. -

Links only give Win7 drivers, I have series 8 chipset and am looking for win8.1 x64 drivers.

mind a question? How do we know its a 7 series or 8 series?
I'm thinking of installing the USB drivers because my USB 3.0 refuses to power up devices (such as USB HDD).
I'm running on windows 8.1 and thinking of upgrading to windows 10 (clean install) -

2- True, thanks for that
3- new INF files (like the drivers the INFs replaced) can bring new *features* or expose them for use by the OS - same applies to utilities (such as the Intel Management Engine, which is actually part of the WMI architecture, but used by quite a few OS-native and third-party utilities - IME's biggest benefits are for SSDs; however, it requires either a 6xx or later chipset, even though you can use SSDs with any Intel chipset that supports SATA drives, even the moldie-oldie 865PE chipset).

I used this method for my Asus G750JW/JX/JH, and all my USB 3.0 devices started showing up correctly, and transfer speeds increased greatly.
This method didn't work for the Asus G751, although many tried.
I haven't tried this on my GT80 yet.
Maybe you can try to restore full USB 3.0 to Windows 8.1? I used the newest Extensible USB 3.0 driver for Windows 7 each time I implemented it, and all worked fine. I haven't tried for about a year, so updates since then are untested by me.
Windows 8 and Intel USB 3.0 Host Controllers
http://plugable.com/2012/12/01/windows-8-and-intel-usb-3-0-host-controllers
It says in the post that it isn't recommended for Windows 8.1, but I used it successfully on Windows 8.1 using newer Intel drivers.
Check to make sure you have a supported chipset:

@Matrix Leader , may I kindly ask for users like me (i'm using P157SM-A), I encountered a problem during installation (exactly the same as you posted on your first post here), so I'm thinking that my USB ports (including the E-SATA) ports not giving enough power to power on a USB-HDD is because my drivers are not up to date?
Or is it a motherboard problem?
Also, may I ask do these drivers exist for Windows 10 ? (assuming that these are usable for Clevo P157SM-A).
Many thanks for advices in advance. -

Intel Rapid Storage Technology v14.8.0.1042 has been released

i wanted to post these two links (wonder I haven't done this already) :
http://www.win-raid.com/t25f23-Which-are-the-quot-best-quot-Intel-AHCI-RAID-drivers.html
http://www.guru3d.com/files-categories/mainboard-drivers-intel.html
1st one explains a lot about Intel AHCI / RAID drivers, and the admin of the forum seems to have done tons of tests with the drivers themselves, and advises older versions of the drivers than the newest ones that are available from Intel, stating, that those showed a higher performance in tests. His advice is even specific for certain versions of RAID-ROMs and I'm really certain, that he knows, what he's talking about.
2nd one also seems to have newer Intel Mainboard drivers, than the one's that are officially provided by Intel. I currently use the 10.1.2.10 WHQL myself, and have no problems with them. If they're the best, I don't know, but I assume, that the people at Guru3D.com heavily pay attention to performance, and they state, that the 10.1.2.10 version had significant improvements over the prior versions.
Good thread btw. @ Matrix.

If Win 10 updates your driver, you can always roll it back, or block updates. If enough people complain, I think MS will need to fix those driver updates (I have all updates shutdown, don't use Win 10 much, so not sure how bad those driver updates are) -
I realize now that getting newer drivers won't change anything as long as said drivers aren't the latest according to W10.
I have used a script to block drivers for now. SU10 didn't do the trick.. -

And what do you mean " and why not install drivers" ?
If i read that right........i guess the question really would be, why would I install drivers that do nothing for my system other than take up memory in my process. -
Driver is a piece of software which tells your system how to use it at the best possible way designed by manufacturer.
In fact you use driver for RST anyways it's just Microsoft's built in the OS. And who knows better how to manage the hardware: MS or hardware's manufacturer?
What driver for storage controller does is managing your storage drives. And if you don't like IRST software then you can always install drivers through Device Manager using "Provide folder's path to drivers" way, just download zip from Intel site or unpack executable. Makes it 200KB size installed and no Autoload program when OS boots up.Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -
No, no.....i dont think you are understanding my question, I know what drivers do and why you need them......
My question is, I don't have a RAID config and the intel rapid storage tech driver is a driver designed for a RAID config ( i take it you know what a RAID config is). So again my system does not have the rapid storage driver now and things are running great......so what benefit would it give me ? AND I am using a Samsung 950 Pro M2 card as my main OS drive..... I dont think Intel Rapid tech driver even supports M2 NVMe drives. ? But i do have a WD Red WD40EFRX 4TB HD for internal data storage.
https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1299599 -
NVMe drives work best with drivers from their manufacturers, in your case Samsung SSD works best with Samsung drivers.
I have never had NVMe drives or slots in my laptop so can't be sure if it's safe or not using IRST with those and... if that should make any difference at all. Meaning I have doubts NVMe has something to SATA controller and it's drivers. What you linked to has different story about hardware RAID (by mobo) having bad effect on NVMe drive's recognition. Installing IRST drivers has nothing to do to enabling hardware RAID (which notebooks don't have I suppose).
P.S. And no doubleposts please, use EDIT button.Last edited: Jul 3, 2016Spartan@HIDevolution likes this. -

For NVMe drives, the IRST driver will do nothing as that is handled by the NVMe Driver so it's best to use the NVMe driver provided by the manufacturer such as Samsung but still install the IRST drivers for other 2.5" SATA HDDs/SSDshmscott, Starlight5 and toughasnails like this. -
Edit: See next post.
If anyone wants the file for adding aptX to your Intel Bluetooth (Intel Bluetooth Audio.msi) just ask me. It's only 1.5 MB compressed.
In order to get it I had to download the Samsung driver download tool, enter a model that actually got Intel Bluetooth with aptX and download the complete Bluetooth package. Turns out that only the file above is needed from that package (5 out of 317 MB).Last edited: Jul 18, 2016 -

Sorry, brother Prema!
I suppose you use ThrottleStop, then? I need to learn how to use it, too damn many options...
I'm also considering a hardware mod by designing a custom heatsink for my W230SS... 80°C on both the CPU and GPU under load is not acceptable.Papusan likes this. -
