After updating the Intel display driver, my Windows Experience Index scores for graphics both improved.

"Desktop performance for Aero" jumped from 4.7 to 6.3
"Gaming graphics" nudged from 6.2 to 6.3

Is this a real improvement, or did Intel game the driver to give a better "benchmark"?

The updated driver: Intel GT1/GT2 display driver 8.15.10.2476 (Aug 9 2011)

Probably not too much to get excited about, but it seemed like a big jump from merely updating the driver.

    Was this your experience also?

We all know that generally WEI is not a reliable way for benchmarking.

My Nvidia 445M GT gives me 6.3, which for WEI, is a GPU with the same power as your Intel HD 3000.. :p

No doubt thus, that the new Intel driver gave it a boost. ;)

While WEI is not a "benchmark" it's still a comparative tool. The new intel driver bumped even the "old" Intel HD Graphics as well, running under 1st generation Core i Series CPUs. AERO performance for (my) WEI went from a 4.2 to 4.3 with the latest driver. Not a big deal but i've formatted this laptop plenty of times and even 3 times since then and never before got 4.3 with this laptop, get it everytime now. There was another driver a while back that bumped gaming performance ~40% for actual games as well.

New Intel HD Graphics driver update, up to 43% increase! - Neowin Forums

I don't play games on my laptop but I could definitely tell even in Windows as the "windows" were more snappy!

Interesting indeed. I'm reluctant to install the updated drivers.

I have the 8.15.10.2321 (Mar 6) and get 6.2 in gaming graphics and 5.9 in aero experience.

HD 3000 is impressive to say the least. I used to have a Sony Vaio with a previous gen Core i5, 4GB RAM, and ATi Radeon HD 5470 512MB graphics and the Toshiba with it's Sandy Bridge Core i3, 4GB DDR3, and HD 3000 runs just about anything I throw at it better than my Vaio did.
