In my process of upgrading to 8.1, I've stumbled upon this problem. I'm running an Alienware 17 and I'm getting some conflict with my Intel HD Graphics Driver and the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver. After installing the HD Graphics Driver, I can't access the Rapid Storage UI, if I try to open it, I get this error: "IAStorUI Has Stopped Working." If I uninstall the HD Graphics Driver, it works fine. Anyone else having this problem? Here are the driver versions I'm using.

Intel HD Graphics Driver 9.18.10.3071, A00
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver 12.0.7.1002, A00

Whenever I have that I have to resort to an older Intel rapid storage driver.

You aren't running raid or intel rapid thingie are you?

Try 12.9 IRST, those are the best,

From what I can understand either your win7 installation has been borked or something is wrong hardware wise, why not format once more and follow the clean win7/8 install instructions here on NBR
