    Hello there

A quick question - which Windows (7 Home Premium or 8 Professional) is more Hardware Friendly?

I got Dell laptop with Intel i5 (second Generation), 6GB Ram, AMD Radeon HD 6630M Graphic card that I am using with Windows 7 Home Preium using exclusively for HD Video Rendering - no plans to upgrade my computer for another year or so.

I have been told that if I install Windows 8 Pro on my laptop then I will get MUCH BETTER performance as compare to the performance I am currently getting from Windows 7 Home Premium.

PLUS: I am going to increase the RAM to 16GB in few days - was also suggested that with additional RAM Windows 8 Professional would be a far better choice then Windows 7 Home Premium while using the same laptop - please guide me in this too.

Kindly help me by guiding me. Thanks.

more RAM will most likely help but the change of windows wouldnt at all.. (start-up/boot time a part)

Doubt that Windows 8 makes that much of a difference; it was probably a subjective feeling at best (or maybe *some* benchmarking improvement, but nothing serious). If you want your hardware to run subjectively faster (and objectively speed up drive I/O by a non-trivial amount), you'll be much better off investing in a good SSD. I recommend Crucial, Plextor, or Samsung.

There's nothing wrong with Windows 7, and there are a lot of radical changes in Windows 8 that you might not like (Metro, only one full window at a time, etc.). Software won't lead to a noticeably massive change like your friend suggested, period. If you want speed, you need to look at the hardware itself (mainly, SSD).

Not. Who told you this/where did you read that? Windows 8 has shown that is does in fact require less resources than Windows 7 does, and it has features that pit it above 7 in terms of boot and shut down time, but it's not drastically better by any means (in fact it's nearly a negligible contrast). Gaming benchmarks show anywhere from 0-5 fps difference between the two OSs.

You're welcome to give it a shot. I'm not promoting nor decrying upgrading - just do a bit of research before you upgrade to see if you will have any issues with any current software you use on 7. :)
