    Hello!
As you see I have SSD Drive in my Qosmio And Thinkpad. But, I've read few hours ago that it was pointless to install IMSM if you have SSD drive. I've done some google search, but was not able to find anyting. I am not talking about raid set-up ect. Only one single SSD drive... What should I do ? Install or leave it ?
I know that, when I install it and re-boot it pops up a bubble and say that a new drive is found ect ect. and after that I got to re-boot agian...

Waiting for fast answers, thanks NBR!

You need to install only the intel SATA/AHCI (non-raid) drivers. You don't need the Intel Matrix storage manager utility.

I am using it fine with my Intel 965PM board. It supports all recent mobile SATA controllers. Intel hasn't released it to the mobile boards yet.

    Got it thanks :)
One last question, should I use the .zip or .exe version ?
I have never understand the point of the Intel® Matrix Storage Console which shows up in start menu after instellations. If it is useless, I guess the .zip version is better ?

Yeah the zip file is better. Just extract it and update the SATA driver from the device manager. The console is useless, unless you have a RAID setup.

I will do it that way then, I know how to update drivers from device manager so that should not be a problem.
    Thank you, appreciate your answers!

I would not install Intel MSM on any single-drive system, unless I were having some kind of problem with Windows' built-in SATA drivers.

That said, MSM actually is installed on my single-drive system... but only because I was having some weird performance problems when using Windows' built-in drivers. Just run HD Tune, and if everything is as expected, then you don't need MSM.

Windows only includes standard SATA/ AHCI drivers, which have only limited performance capabilities. You can just install the Intel's latest drivers without installing the actual utility.

    For Vista:

The MS drivers are horrendous when it comes to queued random read write performance - you actually notice the difference on a Intel SSD.

And for plain random 4K read write the Intel drivers are about twice as quick.

And Maximum Read tops out at about 230-240MB/s while the Intel driver can get up to 248MB/s.

I would just play it safe and install the driver.

On HP laptops you can disable SATA Contorlle Mode Option, which is AHCI. I had to enable Compatibility mode when I was rolling back to XP from Vista for a guy.

Try this, I recommend you to stay on Vista/Win7. Quite not sure how much performance you can get from an SSD under XP.
