    Unknown Device...

I reinstalled Vista and all my drivers, or so I thought.

I cannot get rid of one Unknown Device.. on location Intel(R) ICH8M LPC Interface Controller.

I have tried everything and searched everywhere. I've seen people say it was related to the SATA drive, the Infrared Remote Receiver, the actual chipset, etc.

I thought I was finally getting somewhere with the ITECIR Infrared drivers but after it installed it said it was not for my platform. I'm running x32 , not x64 Vista.

    Can anyone help? Thanks!

Depending upon whether you have Vista 32 or 64, download and install the chipset driver for the GM/PM965 from Intel's site.

as in, uninstalling first and then reinstalling? havent done that...

but i have re-run the chipset driver software numerous times.. in device manager when i try to update driver on the unknown device it actually does find some software and tries to install but eventually doesnt remove the unknown device or comes back and says the drivers are not compatible for my platform (thought i only had x32 but maybe i tried a x64 one)..

as far as i can tell all my intel drivers are in order... not sure...

i wonder if this has to do with the order of drivers that i installed after my reformat?

Yes. Uninstall the previous chipset drivers, the uninstall option might be in Add/Remove Programs, if its not there, just reinstall. Choose your OS and download the INF update utility from here.
