I'm looking for a business-class Internet backup service based in, and vaulted in the EEA - preferably UK (best option), France, Germany or Ireland.

Currently I'm paying upwards of $30,000/year to vault with a UK-based enterprise service provider, and I no longer need the level of availability and services that these guys provide.

All I want is a crash-free, fuss-free local client (must work on Windows Server 2003/2008), reasonable security (both in terms of transport of data and for holding of data) for business purposes, some sort of mass-data-delivery service (separately payable on a 'use-only' basis) and of course, cheap gigabytes. Exchange and SQL backup capability would be a major bonus.

Any suggestions? I have a contract renewal coming up shortly and I definitely do NOT want to re-sign. At the same time I can't say "**** it, I'll stick it up on Dropbox" as I'd be flouting regulations.

Oh yes - projected data volume is about 200Gb.

    What about Amazon's service?

Or maybe set up your own system with a few Home Servers?
At 30.000 Dollars you could possibly set it up yourself... rent a few flats, but a few servers and voila.

Amazon's service is distributed / US-centric. No go.

Ah - brokestudentthinken, ya gots to love it :p

Seriously however - there are regulatory requirements to vault in the EEA, as well as basic security requirements to satisfy the same.

And that is nothing you could set up yourself?

Possibly safer than any central service because if you are a hacker you'd rather target some big company instead of some "home connection".

On another note... a Dutch company was hosting WIkileaks maybe 1 year or so back... apparently they use old nato bunkers if that's secure enough for you... if you can track them down, that might be an idea.

Yeah - we're getting way off topic with brokestudentthinken.

All I'm looking for is a service like Carbonite but vaulted in the EEA, ability to next-day courier a restore disc on-demand, reasonable security (i.e. Tier 4 datacentre, end-to-end user-key-held encryption), a decent client and if possible, Exchange and SQL Server backup capability. And cheap.

You can pay me that $30,000 and I can do that all for you ;).

In all serious, your best bet is to call your local business who does that sort of service for you at a lower cost and benefits. Most of NBR's member reside in the US and I am pretty sure you will not find someone here with the same needs as you. Even if they do, they will either do something like DetlevCM mention (or in your case, brokestudentthinken). Plus, you are asking business level advice which not a lot of people will provide for free.

Members here will probably tell you they heard of/use "said service" before but that company may not meet your expectation. I would stick with that company you are using since Data's security and transport is very important to you and they have not let you down yet (beside the $30,000 bill).
