I have a friend who is having problems with connectivity.

Entering a website name into the address bar of FireFox or IE, the website will not come up. When he pings the website to find out his connectivity, he gets information back including the I.P. address. Entering the I.P. address of a website into the browse, and it will show up.

He is running XP SP2. Firefox is version 2.0.0.4 and IE is version 7.0.5730.11.

We would like to know how to fix the issue so he can enter the website name and not the I.P. address. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not sure how to fix that problem, but you should tell him to update Firefox to the newest version.

It's likely a problem with the network configuration. DNS is exactly the problem. Is there a proxy involved? Is the ISP providing DNS services? Is there a firewall involved?
