I already has IE8 B2 mate :D and it would say it is a must upgrade for all IE users (whether you use it or not ;) )

and it has some nice features like

    1. Private Browsing aka Po*n Mode
    2. Better Tab management
    3. Each Tab runs in its own memory space
    and so many ....

and many disadvantages is many site don't work in IE8 Native mode so you need switch on IE7 compatibility mode for those sites :D

I kinda like it, IE7 kept crashing non stop, now this one seems more reliable.
    I`m all about functionality ...

I just turned the compatibility mode for all sites. But it keeps crashing for no apparent reason, and Crash recovery doesn't work with my Vista x64 Ultimate, but it works on my other PC with Vista x86 Ultimate. Btw, RC1 is already out :D

Each tab runs in it's own memory space? That's good to know, since people don't really care about IE and just say that they stole that feature from Google Chrome. :(

I've had the beta installed for a few weeks now but haven't really used it at all. The few times I did, I didn't have any issues.

I've installed IE8 B2 a few times and find it is still too unstable. It works pretty good but I had a few hard crashes where I had to reset the power and the browser would also restart for no apparent reason. My system is bullet proof in terms of reliability until I upgrade to ie8 so I am 99 percent sure its the IE that causes the issues. But I liked IE8 and wish I could leave it installed. Its easy to go back and forth from IE7/8. To uninstall just go to control panel to program and features and hit the view installed updates tab on the top left and select ie8 b2 to uninstall. I tried it three times and finally surrendered that I won't use it until the full version is released, and only after I read reports that it is stable. I find that MS generally never gets it right until they release it to the public via windows update and then you have millions beta testing it. At which point the final problems get worked out. I remember the most unstable IE I ever used was a CD MS sent me in the mail for IE4 called the final edition special edition with free tech support. That proved to be hugely unstable and I think I reformatted windows 95 3X and my friends did the same when I loaned that disc out. So MS betas, RC's mean nothing to me as well as the first full release to the public.

The other huge feature that is still missing from IE is spell check. Whats up with that MS? I also don't like the fact that MS took out the add favorites button on IE8. You now have to open up the favorites sidebar or add the bookmarks toolbar or hit control z. Personally, I like to keep IE and FF as compact as possible. When you open the customize toolbar in IE8 there is no add to favorites icon to add next to the tabs. You have to open up the favorites sidebar first then add bookmark. So if MS can add the add bookmarks icon and spell check and make it all stable then I'm in.

The Achilles heal of IE is that MS has to perfect the coding perfectly or it will have the potential to bring down windows when it crashes hard. Why MS insists in bundling its code with windows is beyond me. I think that single fact will always make it more dangerous to use then FF. MS chooses to do it the hard way.

IE8 is epic fail. Although it no longer crashes, it does however misrender a great deal of sites and is generally slower than the free alternatives.

Seriously, I think it's time to retire it. There is no need of it. These days you have Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, Konqueror, Flock, K-melion etc.... and they all render pretty much every website perfectly and without problems.

So just what is IE still needed for? It does absolutely nothing that other browsers can't. It's like MS are keeping it just for the sake of it. I for one wish they would focus on their OS and office software, which has no real challengers *yet* and abandon IE.

MS still owns over 70 percent of the browser market and it allows them to use that market share to help direct users to crappy sites like msn, live etc.. There is lots of reasons one would want to retain market share like that. Personally, I don't like opera, safari and chrome is just too basic/crude a browser and is butt ugly. FF and IE are the best looking/functional browsers IMO and it reflects on their market shares. Between the two they pretty much own the browser market hands down.

I have to use IE since FF won't work with my schools network. There are still sites that still like IE so your argument can work both ways. But overall, FF tromps the competition from its huge add-on collection of toys. Nothing comes close to FF's customization. Not even remotely so. And with the last update 3.05 its a speed rocket and highly stable.

The misrendering is present due to web sites still adhere to IE6, IE7 protocols. IE8 offers a safeguard to visit the sites in IE7 mode. This is the same rendering-reroute/masking of FF, Safari, Opera and the lots.

Regarding slow or fast, it is all in the eyes of the browser users.

See above on rendering-masking. And again, fact is that all browsers have an issue with sites rendering.

To give a chance to download other browsers and (drivers) updates and activate a newly bought machine - one good reason, as I personally see it!

    cheers ...

I pretty much made myself independent from IE 7/8. Seriously I have no need for it. All my pages I visit work in FF or Chrome and its a hell of a lot faster than IE. IE has crappy add-ons and ugly UI and is unsafe. I can never seeing myself going back to IE. EVER.

Well said about Chrome being basic and ugly. Google really overdid the minimalism. Firefox looks best with the right add-ons, like the attached image. IE 8 is nice, not that big of an improvement over 7 IMO, too many Accelerators which me off.
