are you clicking a shortcut to run it? does it do the same when you run IE from the start menu? when you run from the run menu? (Start > Run > type iexplore)?

Typically this problem only happened in windows XP. There was a random glitch that after you went to or from IE7 that this would happen. Here is how to fix it:

All you need to do is delete ANYTHING that says IE on the desktop. Yes, even the original shortcut. Then right-click on the desktop, click new, shortcut. The location of IE is "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe", but of course this will be different if the drive letter is different.

Create the shortcut and then try to open IE from there, and let me know how its goes :)

    cheers!

If you right-click on your desktop, go to Properties, then the Desktop tab, there's a "Customize Desktop" button down near the bottom. Untick Internet Explorer, click OK, then Apply, then click into Customize Desktop again and re-enable Internet Explorer. That's the way to get the "official" shortcut on the desktop, without the little arrow and such.
