guys, I found some unusual thing happened to my IE8. dont know, if you have experienced this type of problem. :(
I have found downloading any large than 50 mb file taken so long time to complete. (download speed is ok)download always got stuck at 99% before download finish. normolly, the download's file would need to move from temp folder to the location, which you selected to place the file.

And now, i have to wait for more than 10 mins to see the download's file start moving out from the temp folder. During this period, i could see the file moving window is lagging so much.(rest of the system isn't lagging at all, only that window) and taken 5 mins to move a only 50 mb file to finish download.
anyone known what happen ? is that the IE8 incompatable to anything ??

it didnt happen to me before i got IE7 installed.

I downloaded many files that are over 50MB and I've never experienced the problem you have.

it's probably your antivirus software which scans the file.
Just open the task manager and look at the CPU load. Maybe one program stresses one core more than normal after the download reached 99%. Then you know what program causes this issue.

    Vista 64bits with
Norton Internet Security 2009 (with all protection on )
the problem only happened after i got IE8 installed.
I had not problem on downloading file when i got IE 7 installed.
and i had checked after the download reached 99%, nothing happened to my rest of system, the CPU is less 1% used and Norton seems not run any process either.

Hmm... you could try reinstalling IE8....

Did this happen out of nowhere or when you freshly installed IE8?

I think sometimes I have had a similar thing - not that extreme though - with IE7 - a little "wait" or is that when copying files...

Have you got external drives that shut down when not actively in use?

    ok i will try.
it did not happend before i got IE8 installed.
the problem is between after the download reached 99% and before copying files. the "wait" takes more than 10 mins.
i didnt use any external drives .

and now i found that this problem only happened on some of the website
    such as download from techpowerup.com
but some of website seem ok with no problem at all.

It can - if the virus software scans a file it may take longer on certain files compared to others.

Or actually it will take longer - if you compare a zip archive to a jpeg.

thx, but is that means the virus software will scan the download file straight after it being downloaded ??

    Hi Matrix_XII,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

IE 8 is compatible with Norton Internet Security 2009, but you should check to make sure that you have the latest version installed (16.5.0.135). If you have an earlier version, please run LiveUpdate and then restart your computer after the updates have been installed.

To check the version, open Norton Internet Security, select the "Help & Support" link at the top of the window and then choose "About" from the menu that appears.

The real-time scanning engine called "Auto-Protect" should not have any affect on the speed of your downloads, and it will check the file for infections as it is being written to disk.

I would strongly suggest that you perform a "Full System Scan" with Norton internet Security while booted into Windows Safe Mode, to make sure an infection is not causing the issue you are having.

    Thank you,
    Mike

Slightly off topic, but I strongly recommend this program to help with all your download needs. (free trial) http://www.internetdownloadmanager.com/

    Edit:
IDM is the by far the best one I've used so far. It will even shut down your computer for you when downloads have been completed. Additionally, it will keep a detailed and convenient list of all downloads either completed or still remaining. The actual "usable" features are too numerous to mention.
These days, most software programs seem a bit overpriced, but I can't say the same for this program. The user interface should be a yardstick by which other software engineers measure the quality of their own programs.

A piece of software called "Free Download Manager" does the same for free...

I find they are a hassle though - if you have a stable connection IE does a good job.

By the way - I think there are more programmes like that in the Free Software thread.
