I am having an issue with IE8 not remembering my logins at sites. My privacy settings are at medium where they always are, and allow for cookies. If I keep IE open and open another window or tab, it's fine. But if I close IE I have to relogin everywhere.
Any ideas? Help!

Hmmm, weird. I went to Internet Privacy settings, selected override cookie settings and allow, applied, closed IE, now it seems to work. Then I put it back to automatic and it still works. Something must have gotten screwed up.

I was gonna say it had to do with your cookie settings. Looks like you figured that out.

It also may have something to do with Windows Updates. I frequently have the same problem for a few days after I download various updates. I've spoken with some Microsoft technicians and they try to help, but the problem goes on. For me, it's hard to know whether any one thing will fix the problem because it seems to occur so randomly, I already have my Privacy settings set to "override cookie settings..." but I haven't tried making that change and then going back to automatic. Sometimes a command gets corrupted, and just the act of changing it and changing it back again seems to reset or fix the problem.
By the way, you can also try adding the site to your Trusted Sites and/or Local Intranet in the Internet Options. To do that, go to: Tools, Internet Options, Security, Local Intranet, Sites, Advanced, add in the address in the box, and click: Add. Apply the changes, close, and restart IE8. -
Thanks, good info.

Hi, this is Feran with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team. In Internet Explorer go to Tools -> Internet Options -> click on the Content tab ->then under AutoComplete click Settings and make sure user names and passwords on forms is checked.
Hope that helps! -
i have same problems afer W7 update

user name and passwords on forms is checked
but forms is unchecked
everything must be checked? -
It is and has been. This just happened out of the blue, and come to think of it, came after I installed Microsoft Security Essentials.
-
Me too, IE8 just randomly for a day or two, out of the blue, won't remember passwords or other login settings -- and then it'll be fine for a few days, and then it'll happen again. This first started after I installed one of multiple Microsoft Updates on August 12th (I was never able to identify exactly which one, if any, caused the problem.)
And, I too have all of my boxes checked in the AutoComplete section. I've already tried unsetting and resetting those AutoComplete options, which didn't help. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE8, which didn't help. And I've tried adding the affected sites to my Trusted Sites and Local Intranet in the Internet Options - which didn't help either. Feran, what else can we do to fix this problem? -
It did it again. What I did to fix it (same as last time):
- login to a site (i.e. NBR)
- Chose Tools, Internet Options, Privacy Tab
- Select Advanced button, click "override automatic cooking handling" and select "always allow session cookies"
- OK out of the windows and close IE8
- Reopen IE8 and return to the site that you logged in to, it should be fixed (it should have remembered your login info)
- Go back and deselect the "override automatic cookie handling" if you want to. I did and everything back to normal.
Not sure what it resets, but has worked a few time for me already. I hope they fix it. -
Yes, I'd suggest checking everything, then restart IE8 and see if that helps.
