    Hi to all...

I installed IE8 final the day it was available, and started to work very SLOOOOOOW  . Launching the program takes almost a full minute, and opening new tabs takes 20 or more seconds, saying "connecting" all the time. The new tabs issue is present almost all the time, but sometimes they open instantly.

    Any ideas?

    Laptop HP Pavilion dv8320us
    Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit
    2 Gb of RAM
    Intel Centrino Duo 1.6 Ghz

    Thanks in advance...

I dont know with opening new tabs but yes for fast browsing just turn off the phising filter. It really slows down browsing speed as well as shows problems while browsing.

i usually don't use IE but i've updated to v.8 the other day (curiosity), and i don't seem to have any issues with slow tabs - on win xp though. also IE itself opens instantly.

i'd suggest to look into the event history log (Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Event Viewer) to see if there are no application hangs or whatever... also try disabling any IE addons/plugins/toolbars/whatever, if you have installed any, to find out if the situation changes.

Go to internet options > Connections > Make sure "Automatically detect settings" is not checked.

Thanks for that.. I think it made IE 8 a bit more snappier for me. I'm trying to like this new browser but on my XP machine IE 8 makes the google buttons really small on my home page google.com and some other sites I notice the summit buttons are not normal size but really small. Also no spell check. But the final is definitely more stable then the RC1 or the beta's. Its just they have to build so many standards into it and the compatiblity view is basically running on auto pilot since so many sites.. including this page I am typing on show it is on compatibilty view. MS makes it so hard on themselves to make a decent browser.. they are doing it the hard way for sure.

Found the solution, and IE8 became as fast as Chrome. This is what I found so far and worked perfectly:

The linked page says: "The package will remove all Internet Explorer restricted sites, enhanced security configuration zones and trusted sites". Trustworthy? What do you folks think?

I've noticed IE8 is slow to load .gif files, and even after the page is supposedly loaded (no more loading animation in the lower left pane), the .gif files still stutter and move at about 1/3 normal speed.

    Any ideas???

    Doesn't sound trustworthy to me.

Why do you want to effectively nuke your own security?

    No, it sounds wrong/fishy.

There was a thread here before...sometimes a dll isn't registered correctly - and if you manually regiser it, IE8 speeds up opening tabs - I think I needed that... I'll try a search - if I find it I'll post a link.

    Edit - found it:

I had the same problem, removing those websites from "Restricted zone" worked like a charm. I removed Spybot S&D altogether. It's a known problem between Spybot S&D and IE8, it's even mentioned on Spybot S&D's website.

    TL;DR - It works, and it's safe.

How is doing that "nuking" your security?

If sites are restricted they are restricted for a reason.

IE8 is the fastest on my netbook on Windows 7. Tabs open instantly and it has much more integration to the OS than firefox, chrome or opera.

    True.

Also, I believe for a lot of memebers it tends to be better on Vista than on XP...

The browser itself is very big thus takes a couple miliseconds longer to load. Once IE is loaded into memory, it's probably the fastest browser.

Do you use Spybot and immunization? If you do, that may be the problem.
