I cannot seem to be able to access certain websites, actually all of those that require an encrypted login. (I guess because I am already 'automatically signed in' this does not apply to NBR). I'm guessing this can be changed somewhere in the settings. Maybe something that has to do with cookies perhaps? This has started since I reset 'start up processes' to 'default', after I had 'disabled all' - wasn't able to enter windows - started up in safe mode - and then restored the settings.![]()
Thank You

In Internet Options go to the Advanced tab and reset to default settings at the bottom.
-
So...what's the error message you're getting?
-
The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

Please try the following:
Click the Refresh button, or try again later.
If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.
To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
See if your Internet connection settings are being detected. You can set Microsoft Windows to examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings (if your network administrator has enabled this setting).
Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
On the Connections tab, click LAN Settings.
Select Automatically detect settings, and then click OK.
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Cannot find server or DNS Error
Internet Explorer -
Tried going to the advanced tab and restoring defaults. Still to no avail. Becomming quite frustrating.
-
Have you tried reloading the page. Sometimes I get those errors and it works for me. Also are you using a wireless connection? You might try to repair it. Sometimes that works for me, too.
-
Neither of those solutions worked...
-
So you are able to access all other websites just fine? Have you tried firefox? If you are encountering the same issues in firefox then it means it's a connection problem rather than a browser problem.
-
I think this is a connection issue because now I am not able to access TVU TV Networks. A network communications dialog box pops up with the error. Something somewhere is restricting my settings to receiving some information.
-
Last night, I called my internet provider and upgraded from Ultra Light to Light (a version I had previously). $10 more and I hope it is worth it. (Almost certain this won't resolve the issue though). I can access these websites
(including gmail and another e-mail service) fine on a different computer in my home, on the same internet connection, just not able to on my wireless. All of a sudden too. Could it be somewhere in msconfig? I had reset my settings to default, it must have triggered something.
Edit: Any ideas regarding this issue? I read online about a potential proxy, spyware or DHP (something along those lines). -
Anyone with suggestions?
-
Have you tried Firefox yet??? Or Opera. Let us know.
-
I didn't download FireFox, want to avoid it if possible. I have enough processing run as is. I cannot even access a 'checkout' of a website, most likely will be the same with other 'checkouts'. Basically almost anything secured/encrypted.
-
And this is what the first page on the newly downloaded Firefox reads:
Unable to connect
Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.google.ca.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. -
Have you tried resetting your router? Also there may be a problem with your modem. The ones my DSL provider gives me only seem to last so long before they give out on me.
-
Also could be because the web site is now defunct or your firewall is preventing you from accessing.
-
The following was suggested earlier and I don't see a response from you: In Internet Options go to the Advanced tab and reset to default settings at the bottom. Have you tried that yet?
-
Yes I had tried that, didn't work.
I ended up restoring my machine to a point-in-time about 4 months ago. Now everything appears 'default'. The internet sites appear to be working now though, so that solves that issue. Now I need to still optimize my machine to boot up and run quicker.
