Ok for some reason when I opened internet explorer it would open a new window and keep doing it . A new window would open every second. I had to restart my computer to get it to stop!Is this a glitch with internet explorer or do i have a virus? Thanks!

Most probably a trojan. Try running a scan with Ad-Aware Personal or Kaspersky Internet Security, with System Restore off. (Both have demos, which are fully functional)
-
i'm running a macafee scan and windows defender scan will those be ok to find a virus if there is one?
-
It should find it.
-
Run a scan with SUPER Anti Spyware and MalwareBytes Malware destroyer. I've seen this caused by Smitfraud variants (most recently called Win Anti Virus, XP Anti Virus, and variants)
-
ok the windows defender scan pick up nothing just waiting on the macfee scan
-
-
macafee should be fine (other opinions exist). I am not sure of the adware capabilities of Windows Defender really puts emphasis on "spyware" features. I see no mention of adware, dialers, Trojans, malware, viruses, bots, rootkits, data-mining, aggressive advertising, parasites, browser hijackers and tracking components.
So I would run AdAware unless someone can tell you Windows Defender does do all. -
so I should be ok with macafee's scan?
-
ok I just opened internet explore like 10 times it seems to work fine now. Could it still be a virus? I mainly use firefox but accidentally clicked internet explore and this is how I found this problem.
-
You could run some of the online scanners listed in this thread if you are worried about left-overs:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190538 -
well, if mcaffee didn't show up anything, u should be fine.
-
I rather not do online scanners so far macafee is not picking up anything but its still scanning if macafee does not pick up anything is everything ok?
-
Did either application take any actions? If not then wouldn't you be at the same place as before?
At this point until you confirm what it is it could be anything. The good news is it seems to present as a nuisance not a system destroyer. If it comes back try adaware (free) if it finds nothing run macafee again it may of been updated. Or try something like AVG free or one of the other free ones. Sometimes one catches something the other does not. -
Yeah probably. Mcafee is pretty decent. Taking a look through your task manager to identify processes running is always a good idea as well.
Personally I'd do a full OS reinstall, since I am paranoid and do a lot of online banking. But that's going overboard I know. Mcafee will likely do the trick.
Make sure you remembered to update the virus definitions before you started scanning... -
^^ Yeah, right.
And BTW, get rid of McAfee. KIS licenses are available for 10 bucks on ebay, and it is alot better than mcafee.Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
The only problems I've heard of with Mcafee is that it's a resource hog?
Does it have detection problems? -
I really like mcafee it has caught a Trojan before because a big message came up on my computer saying that it caught it mcafee has always been good to be even on my desktop. Any ways still macafee has not caught anything yet but its still scanning and i ran windows defender like 15 times and it did not find anything macafee updated when I booted up my computer so we are ok there. I'm really hoping I did not get a virus. But could this internet explore thing be a glitch? Its working fine now.
-
also in task manger what should I be looking for? What would indicate a virus in task manger?
-
Any weird process name (almost all are weird
), probably something related to iexplore.exe
-
McAfee is sooo bad for many reasons, including intrusiveness, system resource hogging, false positives, and poor definitions. I agree with Andy, ditch it, get NOD32, BitDefender, or Kaspersky (KIS)
I suggest still running the scans I mentioned earlier. They're free. -
the ones I dont recognize are
can any of you tell if these are viruses?
rundll32.exe
unsecapp.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
I have this but not iexplore.exe
explorer.exe -
If you don't mind the tediousness of it google every task running.
EDIT: I don't know what unsecapp.exe is. Google would give you an answer though. The other three are part of Windows and are safe. -
I'm so confused lol some say macafee is great other say its bad. I really don't know what to think lol =( =(
-
heres unsecapp.exe lol http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/unsecapp
-
ahhhh! Can some one google thi for me and tell what it means? From my understanding its a virus but i want to make sure.
acp2hid.exe -
All those processes are fine. acp2hid.exe is Acer Related Bloatware !!
BUT....
Try terminating crss.exe
It causes a magical blue screen with white text appearing as well.
(Watch out for the STOP code)
-
-
ok but acp2hid.exe is ok?
-
Its Acer Bluetooth (voIP ?!) BLOATWARE !!
Don't worry man, there ain't no virus. I guess your LMB got stuck on the IE icon. -
sorry guys but I'm really freaking out. Macfee is still scanning but still has found nothing. One thing you will know about me is that I'm a very paranoid person.
-
Freaking out never solves anything
. Just be calm. That process is fine. Bloatware just means it's not necessary and was installed by Acer.
It might be wise to poke through the security forum once this is resolved and check out peoples preference for security software. -
ok my other processes did not have an I in front of them and none like to odd so I think i'm ok there still waiting on macafee scan i have a lot of files lol
-
ok the macafee scan is done out of the 209729 files it scanned none thing showed up to be bad. So my computer is ok?
-
I have not used Macafee in 10 years so I do not know, do you have a complete protection suite including the adware stuff? If so fine but if it is virus only. Run Adaware.
Why Macafee is hated? It is not the best or close. It is resource hungry. It is expensive. It really has no positives in so far as there are better cheaper or free options out there. Other than that there are no problems with it.
When I said scan later it may have updated? And you said it did update. I was meaning Macafee may not have even released an update for the problem. See they may update again in a day or two as they may have found new threats.
Could it be a glitch? Sure anything is possible. And some would say Vista is one big glitch so Micrsoft has history.
I was assuming the same page kept opening? Is that correct? That is not the way most I have heard of work. For example I read about I believe "**** bombs". You click on an adult link and your screen starts getting flooded with windows of hundreds of adult sites. I can't say much about as pp has never seen an adult site.
I would tell you to uninstall Explorer and reinstall to fix glitches. But well if it still can't really be uninstalled I have doubts that would work like it does with other applications you can uninstall.
Most importantly this only seems frustrating not serious at the moment. So stay cool? -
macafee does not cover addware? I will update it. I have never been to an adult site before. What i meant was when I click on internet explore it would take me to the msn page and as soon as it did another window would open and it would keeep on opening when the msn page loaded. SO I had about 50 windows opened in about 50 sec. I will update in 2 days and re scan. If this helps my desk top does the samething sometimes to. Do sis a scan on theer to and nothing came up.
-
so i'am ok?
-
did another scan this morning still nothing. So i think I'm in the clear! I hope
Internet Explorer Problem!!!!
