Well I've put off this problem for awhile now, like, six months, but it is a frustrating one. I use my laptop all day long, so it's really on from morning till evening. After a few hours every day when you surf online, the internet starts struggling, or rather, the windows. Each time I open a new window it may take 5-10 seconds just halting, and then opens. Or just clicking on a link same thing. Like any new activity gets slow, like the laptop is working with something else at the same time. I should also say the fan works quite hard at the same time and the cpu gets quite hot. Restarting the whole laptop fix the problem (until it starts again that is), and some days it doesn't seem to occur at all like today, but most days it does. It's just annoying problem and not the end of the world, but still.
At the same time the laptop has turned way slower to start or restart. When I got it I measured it and it started from scratch to fully at 27 seconds. Now it's more like 90 seconds, and I've only used it actively in 7 months really.
I've run antivirues programs btw, nothing (a trojan 8 weeks ago but its quarantined)

Anti-Virus programs don't repair system or any files for that mater. They can only remove the virus. Once effected, your done for.. get your you OS disk and re-install. The purpose of an anti-virus, is to prevent an infection. You get a file, the anti-virus detects it's a virus. If you still choose to run it (or don't let it scan), and like an idiot allows it full admin rights... then your screwed.
Your problem sound like a memory leak from a program, possibly malware.
I strongly suggest to scan your system with Malwarebytes (free), and then uninstall your anti-virus solution, and use MSE instead (if not your not using it already).
Also, a genuine version of Windows is always best, if you don't have it (I am NOT saying you your copy is illegal or not.. I am just knowledge for everyone). -
Ok, so, if I find a virus in a virusscan and quarantines it, it already may have damaged some parts of the sortware? But it can't do *further* damage right? I got AVG antivirus program btw. And the win 7 came installed, I bought this laptop secondhand.
I downloaded malwarebytes and did a scan now, came up with 5 infected items, they got very strange titles:
Dont.Steal.Our.Software
Trojan.Dropper.PGen
Trojan.FakeAlert
Malware.Trace
Trojan.Agent -
Sounds like you have an infection.
Do you use anything else other than Malwarebytes & AVG to clean your system?
When was the last time you installed your operating system, if ever?
Just quickly what are your computer specs, cpu, ram, etc? You said you got it second-hand.
The person above you is right, you should probably do a new install, that's the only 'real' way of making sure you don't have any viruses. Then install your Malwarebytes and Anti-virus before you even get on the internet. After that the first few things you should do is download Updates via Windows Update to ensure you have all of the hotfixes for known problems.
Personally I find that Avast! Free runs better than AVG free, if you have the free version of AVG. I, myself have the paid version of Avast! Internet Security. If you frequently visit malicious websites without a ton of protection you could find your computer regularly becoming a pain to use. Generally if you notice anything new that you didn't install yourself then it's time for a virus scan. -
I did get it secondhand, but it was hardly used and he had all the receipts, it's checked with Sony and I've even prolonged the warranty another 2 years. It's a Sony FW 41, Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 2.53ghz, RAM 4 GB, win 7 64-bit
I only use AVG and now Malwyre yes. Think I've tried Ccleaner sometime at the start.
Hmm reinstall from win 7 or do you mean an external copy? -
I mean pop your Win7 disc in the drive and do a clean install after saving all of your files to an external drive.

CCleaner doesn't remove infections. It just empties Temp directory, cache, etc... in 1 mouse click. And has some additional feature like remove startup items. Good little tool to remove Adobe crap, and Java updater thing, and the rest, but it doesn't remove infections of any kind.
Microsoft Security Essential has excellent reviews (way better than AVG, close to or on par with Avast solution), it scans for all kind of viruses (worm, trojan, etc...), spyware, and malware. Microsoft Security Essential is free for home, it doesn't slow down Windows startup, or your computer, and you don't even feel you have an ant-virus installed. It's THAT non-intrusive. Only when a real problem arises, it notifies you. Also, it's update is intreagretaed in Windows Update. So, that simplifies things. It's also in 64-bit, for greater scanning performance (now it would be your HDD limiting things).
MalwareBytes has 1 specialties and it's malware. It's good to have it with another anti-virus solution, to manually scan when you feel something is wrong.
Avoid multiple anti-virus/security programs on the system, these can create conflicts (as Windows only support 1 of each (1x firewall (but you don't need one, as Windows 7 firewall is superb), 1x anti-virus, etc...). When conflicts arise, both software will be rendered useless.
You need Windows 7 disk to re-install Windows 7.
Please note that all your personal data will be gone. Be sure to backup them up outside your system before doing this.
Installing Windows 7 is easy. It's exactly like installing a software on your computer... well almost.
If you feel better, here is step by step instructions.. as you can see, it's fairly straight forward:
Windows 7 Install Guide
The only thing to keep in mind Step 8 (see above guide, second page), instead of clicking on the Disk Partition and click on Next. You want to click on the Disk Partition, then click on Advance, and then click on Format. THEN click on Next.
You want to format your hard disk, to remove the virus and the old Windows 7 installed.
