I have a question regarding antivirus programs. But first some info. I'm currently using Norton Internet Security, which has Anti Virus included, BUT, it takes so d... much of my system resources that i'm fed up with it.
I've read the thread/poll in this section of Notebookreview about antivirus.
My question now is: What does the common antivirus program do?
(My norton protects me all the time (well so it seems), and is not just for scanning every other day, and afterwards remooving the infection.)
Is this "real-time" protection against viruses common feature in programs like AVG, NOD32 etc. or are they just "scan-and-remove"?

Yeah, they all run real time and on your email. Try a few out and see what you like.

Just wanted to get everything clear, i don't wan't to have to install all sorts of ekstra programs, just because i get a new antivirus. Thanks for the quick reply. Rep to you...

The best antivirus applications (NOD32 and Kaspersky, IMHO) provide BOTH full-time protection and use enormously lower resources than bloated-ware such as Norton. In addition, their frequency of updates (HOURLY with Kaspersky if desired, and they DO update at least three times a day seven days a week) and ratings in the review tests make them the clear choice if the best is desired at about the same cost as others.

If you are wanting a firewall and virus protection, I would recommend PC-cillin Internet Security. It takes up little resources, and updates practically everyday instead of everyweek. It has several built in features like spyware scan, security check (which checks for MS vunerabilities), wi-fi detection if you have multiple computers, standard virus scan (system and email). They have a 30 day trial on their website.

Best thing to do is get your mail on Yahoo, MSN, etc. Then if you get a virus, it is on their computers not yours. If you get an attachment, they'll scan it for you.
