I got my new Dell 1720 laptop with Vista Ultimate and reloaded Vista to eliminate all the bloatware. I normally use FF and I am experiencing numerous timeouts and Page Not Found errors. I am constantly having to click on a link a couple of times to get it to start going. Pages are loading slower about 50% of the time. This is happening in IE7 as well... even with Phishing off.

I do not have this issue on my XP Pro laptop. It works flawlessly.

I know a lot of Vista users are completely happy, so something has to be up with some of my settings that I am obviously missing. I have been through the tips and tweaks threads and optimized as best I know how, but that has not improved anything. Browsing has become undesirable with Vista Ultimate on that laptop. If I cannot figure it out, I am either returning the laptop or Dell will have to provide me with XP Pro.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Out of the box, Vista has networking issues. A lot of them, and I see a lot of people on my campus with issues. I'd suggest updating Vista and applying SP1, which may or may not help.

Can you give some info about your network setup?
Wired or wireless? Which wireless card? Have you tried ethernet?
DHCP? Same DNS server, gateway, etc. as your other computer?
What firewall are you using? Is outbound blocking turned on on the firewall? Did you try turning off the firewall?

    I have SP1 already.

All of the network settings are the same... automatic. It's a Lynksys WRT54G Router. The network cards are different in each laptop. In the Fujitsu laptop I have the Intel Pro 3945 ABG card. In the new Dell I have the Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-Card. The connection to the network seems to be flawless.

No software firewalls are turned on. It's an unsecured network for now. We live in the boonies and nothing anyone would want on our computers anyway... but I do plan on making it a secure network later.

. taking in that ur router currently supports 2-wired (the new laptop inclusive) and 1-wifi ... is this correct?
. have u tried resetting ur router when u first plugged in the vista laptop?

    cheers ...

There is one computer wired to the router and both laptops are wireless.

Yes, I have reset the router, but no help.

u could try to hook one laptop direct to the router and see if there is any (lbig) differences. Technically the router should be able to support more than just 2 wifi connections with no performance degradation.

if the direct connect worked, u might want to see if u can use different channel on the wireless

    cheers ...
