Windows XP, DivX codecs, and WinDVD are installed on my PC. When I start a DVD up in WinDVD, it only shows a black screen on my external monitor, but WMP works perfectly fine.

My external monitor is my primary (and only) monitor that I am using on my notebook. Anyone know what is going on?

Two words. 'overlay'. Ok, that's only one word but that's the problem. I see by your sig you have an ATI chip. If you are clever you can probably set your video driver to use 'overlay' on the external. If not, turn off acceleration in WinDVD. Failing that, you can turn off acceleration for all programs from DXDiag.

THANK YOU. I turned off hardware acceleration in WinDVD and that solved it...I had to hunt around but I finally found that thank you!

I'll look for a way to change the ATI driver, but I'm not too sure how to do that :p

EDIT: Now, I just have to figure out why WMP 'remembers' where I left off with the last DVD...I don't care for that at all.

You can turn that off, I'll have to find out how.

I had a similar issue as you long time ago and I solved it by "cloning" my display instead of having a dual monitor desktop.
