Apparently it also uses a newer version of Webkit, and I read a few comments from people who used it that say it seems faster!

Why isn't Google Chrome running the latest version of WebKit?
-
Downloaded, looked just like chrome obviously. However i experienced some very slow maximizing/minimizing of any windows i had open while iron was running. Didn't have this problem when i had chrome installed.
-
Wouldnt this be called Hacking the Google's Browser.
IF google are like Creative..they mite sue them down.
remember the Creative X-fi Driver issue? -
-
-
i actually like iron a lot. i personally am one of those who always removes cookies and cache since im sick of all the drap i get in emails and i also dont want google to be tracking my habits good or bad doesnt matter.. iron is very nice.. it may become my main browser
-
Check this out though, "UnChrome"
http://www.abelssoft.net/unchrome.php
"Regarding to Google, "Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer, and easier". Unfortunately, each Google Chrome installation contains a unique ID that allowing identifying its user. Google doesn't make it an easy job to remove this ID.
UnChrome helps you with this task. It replaces your unique ID with Null values so that your browser cannot be identified any longer. The functionality of Google Chrome is not influenced by this. You only need to apply UnChrome once.
If Google Chrome is started now then please close it. Afterwards, please click on the link below to anonymize your Chrome installation." -
but things work in iron?? like my wouse scroll wheel etc that dont work right in chrome? whay is this??
-
so using the unchrome is essentially what iron is?? or am i wrong and iron is still somehow different...
-
Iron does this:
No unique user-ID
No user-specific information is sent to Google
No alternative error messages
Crash information is not sent to Google
No Google updater
UnChrome only does this:
No unique user-ID
However, if there isn't a user-ID then the other stuff listed under Iron shouldn't be there in UnChrome. They both look like they essentially do the same thing.
I haven't tried Iron so I don't know why that works...Can you go to the "About" screen in Iron and check the version? -
1.0.155.0 (6886) even pages that were not rendered right with chrome like my verizon email shows up properly with iron?? but not chrome
i also used the standalone installer for chrome since i dont want the google updater crap.. the stand alone doesnt add the updater but i figure you know that -
EDIT: Yeah, I made a thread about the standalone version. However I found out how to get rid of "GoogleUpdate.exe" permanently but can still update Chrome. Delete it from startup in msconfig and in Task Scheduler. Standalone version doesn't include a good feature of Chrome, "Google Gears", thus the reason for me not to use the standalone version. -
added more to above post..if chrome worked like this and i could be not have any info sent to google id switch tbh this version is smooth, fast pages dont load in a jerky manner scrolling is smooth more so than the chrome i was trying ( i dont remember which version it was though) my email is right mouse wheel works right etc..

id actually like to use chrome just because i know it will remain supported down the line but it will have to work like this does..where is the most current full version of chrome i can get? i dont want the downloader installer i want the actual full exe so it does not include the updater that runs at startup?? thank you again
-
here is the downloads page with the changelog on it for you:
http://www.srware.net/en/software_srware_iron_news.php
also what exactly is google gears?
i just checked on the web site for it and it says i have gears installed already so it must be in the iron version
and when i remove the updater from startup even manually from the registry it always somehow comes back after a few reboots??? -
EDIT: Double wow, they ARE using the latest webkit...so it's faster. -
yeah im telling you its def faster than the chrome i was using by a good amount and it renders much better also imo
-
I still don't understand why Google wouldn't update Webkit to its latest version...must be a good reason. I'm going to try Iron now...I'm supposed to be sleeping now, finals tomorrow.
-
lol... please let me know what you think .. the only reason i dont know if i want to stay with iron is future support and as you said im not sure what else is in there.. not saying anything bad but i cant read german so i cant check the forums out either..im VERY impressed by iron though
-
I just tried importing my bookmars and it locked up on me with 99 CPU. Not a very good first impression. I'll tinker with Iron tomorrow.
I need to figure out where to insert that adblock.ini as well -
hmm i imported everything fine with no issues just checked and they are all there took like a split second
-
Quick little test, it is faster as far as rendering high image pages, I'm just hesitant to use it primarily as much as I use Chrome as far as for email and other sites where I have a login and password...As far as support goes, I'm sure they will update it often, they have been so far.
-
why are you hesitant about the login's? do you think there could be a issue with them? should i be worried about my info?? more of a trust thing?? but this is so fast compared to ff3.... wow
also dod deleting the updater actually work for you? for some reason after 3-5 boot ups i noticed it had come back again for me when i had it is that normal -
Just because this is fairly new to me. I haven't really read much into this besides the stuff on the outside. And also because their foreign ;p Their forums have a lot of english users, looking now..
-
its so nice to use the chromium engine and actually have things work the way they are supposed to imo.. this for me at least shuld be what chrome is. i can read my mail in verizon now.. instead of a blank page .. etc
-
Ok, I got adblock to work in there...however it's not perfect and still displays ads on some sites, such as NBR. lol.
Needs to get on ABP level. :] -
could you direct me to the newest version of chrome.. is there anyting newer than the general released version?? anything currently in beta even?
-
Yes, the developer builds.
http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel/ -
thank you.. now how often does it get updated?? is it like ff beta nightly builds or only major updates?? i assume i would have had to styart with the regular installer not the stand alone correct?
thank you again ill throw you some more rep as soon as i can.. -
Not nightly builds a la Minefield, but every few days, it's random. You might see some back to back days or a week. Only been one update since the BETA title's been slashed.
-
ill install it on my test machine i use for any kind of testing and ill see how it goes. im worried about that updater i HATE things i dont want running at startup.. frives me crazy.. lol..
-
It doesn't run on startup if you delete it how I told you in previous post. You could also test the portable version then..
-
i noticed though it always seemed to come back and i had to disable it again??
-
Are you talking about googleupdate.exe or what?
-
well i def disabled the start up updater but even still when i checked i saw the program had auto updated anyway and i even saw the process running a few times. if the updater is disabled it should be running. except my av i update my programs and vista myself i dont let anything auto install or update at all..guess i would have to block it then simply with the firewall. just deny the update.exe acess to the net
-
Delete the scheduled task in Task Scheduler.
Iron uses more cpu and ram than Chrome. Iron can set profiles though...but I'm the only one on this machine so that doesn't help me. -
more ram maybe because of the ad block or is it more ram even without the adblocker?
-
Nah, that wouldn't make a difference. It's virtually the same actually. Just sometimes I notice Iron uses 50+ CPU. Could of been the site I was on.
-
yeah i have not seen anything like that yet on the machine
