I had been having problems for a while with my computer (network connectivity, various other things) that, after spending a while searching online, I traced back to AIM. Whatever forum I was on (I forget, it's been a while) had pinpointed AIM and some video player it installs as the cause of the problems. They were correct, as a system restore back to right before I installed AIM fixed the problem for good.
(Hopefully someone here is familiar with what I'm talking about.)
I am wondering if it is ok to install AIM again, or if I should stay away. And if I should stay away, are there any programs I can use to talk to my AIM buddies without using AIM itself?
Thanks!

Use Trillian. A thousand times better.
It's like FF v IE. -
ok, thanks. I'll definitely try that.

Pidgin is very good too, and unlike trillian it is also free an open source. It runs on Windows/Linux/Mac, and also supports a lot of other chat systems. http://pidgin.im/

Basically, I got so fed up with the crap from Aim that I deleted it off my computer. My search for another Instant messaging program led me to trillian, and it's so much better. It may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but it uses less resources and it actually works unlike Aim. -
Im fine with the most recent vertion of AIM and SP1

Trillian is alot better. No ads too. -
I actually like Pidgin better than Trillian because Pidgin allows you to name your contacts.

I like aim without ads = AIM AD HACK... been using it for years. gets rid of ads, aol browser, setting of aim as your homepage, deletes all the crap aim comes with, but doesnt use, etc. give it a shot.

Aim 5.5 with DeadAim. DeadAim is the BEST plugin for Aim. No ads, clones aim, custom smileys, log manager, aliases, transparency, notification and more.

I use Miranda IM , its one of the best freeware Multi-IM
Is AIM ok with SP1?
