Should I stick with Adobe Reader 8 or should I upgrade to ver. 9? The main difference with ver 9 is it comes with Adobe Air but I am not sure that I would need it. I would like to keep my system clean without any bloatware so if the new version provides minimum benefit while uses more system resources, I would keep the old one. My only interest is to use it to read pdf documents, not doing some fancy work.

Adobe reader 8 is good enough. version 9 installs some bloatware with it.

Adobe Reader 9 recently came out with an update and is now Abobe Reader 9.1. Since 9 has security patches above and beyond 8 (or earlier, eek!) it is worth updating. Personally, I simply went into Add/Remove Programs after installing and uninstalled Adobe Air and Adobe.com. ;) Of course, if you are satisfied with one of the alternative PDF readers, that is OK, too.

    Foxit reader FTW! :D
I find that the fact that I have to uninstall adobe air and acrobat.com after I install adobe reader a bit to annoying for me. I have been using foxit on my notebook for years now.

    Foxit reader user here.
Not gonna use Adobe Reader as it's heavier in comparison.

As others have said, +1 for Foxit Reader. Loads much quicker and can cycle through pages much smoother than Adobe's own reader.

Adobe 9.1 seems much quicker and less of a hog than earlier versions (well version 6.x was the slowest I think, before that it was quick and light).

I like Foxit but I am allergic to mixing languages. I run Swedish Vista, and it really irks me when there are not translated versions. This is also why I run an old version of Photoshop (in Swedish) rather than the newest GIMP: I don't want a sudden "Edit with Gimp" menu option among my Swedish ones in the right-click menu...
(I would like to install an english vista, which would solve that problem for me, but I don't feel like buying one).
