I was just about to purchase the Sager np2090 from XoticPC, but then I came across the option for no OS. I have a copy of XP Home that was on a desktop that is now a linux machine, will this be usable? I know MS is picky about such, but I have the key and ownership. Any thoughts?

Also, if I have to purchase another copy, is XP Pro worth it?

If it's a retail version the license should be transferable. If it's OEM... probably not.

Whether XP is still worth it is really a matter of personal preference at the moment. I feel it is, others think otherwise...

If it is a Recovery Disk, it probably wont. But if you purchased it your self. Yes, it most-likely will.

    Hope I could help

you could try it. you will definitely have to call up Microsoft and explain the situation before it can be activated. it will be up to them whether or not they believe you. Just tell them that you parted out the computer after the motherboard died. If you tell them you have linux on it, they may not be to nice ;)

If you must resort to buying a new copy of XP, you'll probably be fine with XP Home. Can't find the MS comparison chart anymore, but if memory servers (I'm old and beatup - might not LOL), the differences won't affect most home users at all.

MS is semi-lenient on reinstalls, I had to call them last time, but the input is worth it. Thanks guys.
