    Dear All,

Is CCleaner safe to be used on Windows 7? I have been reading a few articles in different places on the web, where people have been advising against CCleaner on Win 7, but instead to probably use the glary utilities tool, for the registry cleaner, for example. Of course, I don't think those posters were fanboys of Glary', but were experienced users.

I had been using CCleaner until recently in Win 7 and I noticed no issues as such, but I am curious to know.

    Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Been using it since Win7 was released, and it hasn't broken anything yet.

Unless you enable all the cleaning options because you want to be crazy, its safe to use. :D

    Thanks everyone.

Yes, of course, I have been using CCleaner for a few years now, and I have had no issues, on Win XP, Vista Ult., Windows 7 Ultimate (and yes, I've always been very careful, familiarizing myself well with the cleaning options). It's just that I came across quiet a few posts in other forums by leading members, and it made me wonder if it was doing anything crazy in the background, while cleaning up.

Thank you all, once again. Cheers.

Blindly clicking buttons on a 'cleaner' without fully understanding what is happening under the covers is dangerous.

Same here because CCleaner doesn't use aggressive registry cleaning tools and what it does find usually isn't a problem even if left alone. The main reason I use CCleaner is to clean log and internet files left behind. I also like the wipe free feature, works really good.

Thanks a lot people. Yes, I have been using it too, on Win 7 and haven't seen any issues. Just wanted to be sure and clear :). Thanks again.

Sometimes CCleaner will delete a program's activation code such as Chaos Intellect. This is the only program that was affected when I used CC.

I've been using CCleaner for years now. But it is always useful to know what each cleaning tool does.

A quick note - just got reminded:

Sometime' I did notice CCleaner deleting the Office set-up (or config or whatever it is called) file - it goes something like OPA12 or similar.. and the next time I start an office app (word or excel, etc), it used to go to the screen that it is configuring the set-up, similar to the way it does when Office is installed the first time.

Of course, I am not sure on this (because I found it happened a few times with easycleaner too!!).

When I leave the Office part unchecked in CCleaner, it didn't happen again.

But in general, I never had any serious issues with CCleaner anyways.

    Cheers.

ccleaner (and Glary, et. al.) deletes NOTHING that the user hasn't told it to.

This is why it's important to understand what any 'cleaner' is doing. If a user is unable or unwilling to take the time to do so, then they are probably better off NOT using ANY cleaner.
