Hi,
I was interested by the free encrypting tool made by CE-infosystems.
http://www.ce-infosys.com.sg/CeiNews_FreeCompuSec.asp
It looks nice, seems to protect the harddrive by encrypting it and prevent it to be erased or formatted.............well I try it and after 5 hours of encryption of my HDD, I could easily format it with a Partition Magic boot CD (without having to enter the pre-boot password) [:0]
CE-infosystem say that their tool will prevent the HDD to be formatted and that the drives will appear as "unformatted". While drives effectively appears as "unformatted" in Partition Magic, it is still possible to format them with any file system and thus erase the data of the disk. I did this on an extended partition and the formatting did erase all data on the disk but in Windows, this formatted drive still appear as encrypted!!!!!
Did I make something wrong or is this free tool not as efficient as it's claimed to be???
Thanks
Oh I forgot to add that after installation of CompuSec, I was no more able to "soft" shutdown the laptop.......... Uninstalling it solved the problem.

Nothing will prevent a drive from being reformated, except possibly those tab things on floppies. But the encryption will keep the drive from copied and read. I think the goal of their software is to encrypt and hide backup data drives.

My advice is based on personal experience. Effectiveness will vary.
Is CompuSec encrypting soft really good???
