If you have Windows XP does that mean you can't play Games in DirectX 10 mode and your missing out on DirectX 10 effects?

Yes, only DirectX 9 is available on XP, while DirectX 10 is available on Vista.

I don't think you're missing out on much to be honest. :)
It's still going to be a long while before dx10 only games become mainstream. :)

Technically, it is only for Vista BUT you CAN install DX10 on XP (if you're up for the challenge) and then you can enjoy the (lacking) DX10 "features" and "effects".

by the time DX10 games come out, your computer won't be able to play them (too slow regardless of DX10 support).
