Am I safer using Firefox to make purchases online rather than IE7? I want to use the safest browser available. Noob question, I know.

I would take this one step further at the cost of being banned :D

Basically IE is much less standards complaint and much less secure then the like of Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera.

Hmm. Then I would definitely start talking to the Firefox experts as opposed to here. Check out the MozillaZine forums. They can help you out.

Might try downgrading, dont remember if i had this issue on the previous version. IE seems to work just fine, so its a firefox problem. And since even after uninstalling it (removing user data etc) still has the same issue might be a release problem. Although its strange since didnt see a lot of people complaining in google :p

Don't downgrade. That's avoiding the problem, not fixing it. Just register at MozillaZine and post a thread about it. It's worth your time.

Its strange, just tested at least 4 versions, including the Beta one, same issue in all of them.
Might do that since seems really odd.

A browser is as safe as your surfing preferences.

Some online sellers might not support anything other than IE. Furthermore try using latest IE8 beta 2, more securities have been updated, just like the rest of the latest browsers versions.

    Safe shopping and enjoy.

    cheers ...

Thanks, was a weird issue :p

Thats why there are addons to make firefox use the IE engine in some sites :) Bottom line is that all browsers are good, depends what you like. For eg i started using firefox a few years ago since you could use addons on it and you couldnt on IE, after that i stayed with firefox since i got used to it :)

    Firefox is way better.

Although they messed things up with 3.0.4. version which crashed every day. Situation is better now in 3.0.5, newest upgrade.

Firefox is less secure than IE7 and IE8 Beta on Vista. It is unable to take advantage of Vista's built-in browser sandboxing abilities, and won't be until at least version 4. Unfortunately, saying something so blasphemous on an internet tech forum is about equivalent to swimming with hungry sharks these days, but let the technical details be known.

Obviously, this doesn't itself make IE7+ better than Firefox, but as far as inherent security is concerned, Firefox itself really should get its into gear and take advantage of the sandboxing feature before it boasts about better security.

I don't think so, considering all the security flaws that have been reported recently for Firefox's latest version.

Pretty much FF is safer. Just a week or 2 ago, IE got exploited that revealed a major security flaw.

I've used Firefox, IE, and Safari. I have to say that I like Firefox the most, but I could just be saying that because I'm so used to it now after having used it for years. Safari has a very clean look and I don't have a problem with it at all. I don't ever see myself using IE ever again, to be quite honest. If I could completely remove it from my system without fear of doing some damage (since it's integrated into the OS), I would.

So, I guess what I'm saying is Firefox FTW.

If you want to use FF and have it look exactly like IE7 and you are running vista then grab the vista aero theme, add the glasser addon and the personal menu addon.. the glasser makes it transparent and the personal menu lets you take out the menu bar (hitting the alt key puts it back) And this is the best looking theme.. its nice. I 've tried just about everything too.

You may need the aero modifier addon to make it dark when maximized.. but at any rate, it all works great and looks wonderful.

    IE7 is faster for me.

It might have to do with my computer having a Pentium 4 processor, but not sure.
