Who cares. Google Beta software is usually better than other companies version 82.
Plus Beta means free. -
True...but it begs the question: is Google continuing to work on said project(s)?
Google excels in free stuff, so I doubt even non-Beta will be non-free. -
Oh, and seriously:
Google Calendar Sync ROCKS. I can keep all my Outlook installs on all my PCs up to date with my calendar. Love it! -
It's their excuse. Whenever someone points out gmail security issues like this one: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/pos...il-vulnerable-to-sidejacking-despite-ssl.html
or other bugs, they can just say, "Well, it's in beta, so there may still be a few issues...." -
I may have to look into this Google Calendar. Sounds pretty interesting.
-
Thought the same thing about gmail...
Google keeps developing it's stuff, so I guess according to them it's only appropriate calling a software 'beta'. They'll never go gold -
What would they gain by "releasing" the products?
Well, they'd still have to maintain them and upgrade them over time, and presumably they'd still be free, so the workload would be the same, and the income would be the same.
However, if it was released, they could be held accountable for errors in the software.
People would complain when security vulnerabilities are found, people would get really angry if they accidentally leaked personal information or any of a million other things.
When it's in beta they can just say "We're sorry this happened, but we *told* you it's still in beta, and we never promised it was perfect".
It's in their best interest to keep that beta tag on as long as possible. -
Wow. I never thought of it like that.
That's actually pretty clever.
Is Google Calendar EVER going to get out of BETA???
