    Hi,

I just bought a laptop a few weeks ago, Acer Aspire 5520, however, the laptop didn't come with the windows Vista CD or DVD. However, I do have a Vista Business DVD and CDs which I got free from my school.
I have heard that Vista DVD has essentially all the Vista versions in it, and it depends on the key code, which version gets installed on the system. Is this true?
What I am trying to do is to install vista Home Premium on my laptop, using the Vista Business DVD. is that Possible?
I also have a Vista Ultimate Update for Vista (32 bit), would that require alot of extra resources? and is their any particular advantage for me (I use the laptop for college work, movies and sometime games)?

Most manufactures have stopped including backup disks. However there should be some type of recovery console which allows you to create them. I'm not sure what your other question, I'm interested in knowing myself. You can compare the Vista editions and decide for yourself. And here is a good article on which version uses the most resources: http://mpan3.homeip.net/?vista

I was running vista ultimate, switched back to Home premium. Don't notice much diff, bit I do miss being able to create a image file with ultimate at any point. HOWEVER, I wasn't able to use the image I created ith Ultimate because I put it on a USB Drive as backup and deleted my actual backup partition/image. Needless to say, Vista likes the images where they are supposed to be, on the same size partition, etc.

I don't miss ultimate and use Acronis Home Image 11 for my imgae backups and I can reinstall in under 15 minutes with the Acronis image

    for what it's worth.............

    Thanks for the Replies,
Can I install Vista Home Premium, using the Vista Business DVD.

I do have the Acer Recovery DVD's, however, I don't want to use them because they also install all the blotware also.

I just want to install Vista and Drivers, then see what do i need to install.

It's true that all Vista versions are included on the DVD, and that version specific product keys determine which ones you can install. See Here

You can also decide not to enter a product key, and pick a version of Vista to try from this screen, just make sure that you get and enter the correct product key before the trial expires.

Yes there shouldn't be any problem but if you already own ultimate, go for it already

I doubt Ultimate upgrade key will work directly while installing from the Vista DVD.... It will work only if you are upgrading from another version of Vista..... So to use that Ultimate upgrade key you first need to install Home Premium and then use that Ultimate Upgrade key to upgrade it to Ultimate.....

Although all versions of Vista are usually included on the same DVD it is still possible to strip out some files which arent required by some version of Vista thus making that DVD capable of installing only certain versions.... This can be done using vLite too.... But MS and the manufacturers usually include all the versions on the same DVD and let the key decide the version to be installed.....
