I was having a conversation earlier today with a friend about this and thought I'd ask for some additional input/opinions. Since Vista Home Basic lacks much of the resource hogging "eye candy" (Aero, Flip 3D, etc) included in the other versions (Home Premium, Business & Ultimate), it seems that it would also be the fastest version.

    Thoughts?

Nope, Basic does not translate to the fastest version.

It just lacks of many extra functionalities, marketing purpose more than anything else.

    cheers ...

Aero uses the GPU to render the desktop, and therefore takes some of the load off the CPU. Providing your graphics card doesnt suck, of course.
