Well how hard is it to upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit, and how, exactly, do you do so? And how big is the difference is the performance between the two?
Also, keep in mind I plan on getting a T7250 dual-core processor and 3GB of RAM.

x64 will be IME around 5% faster than x86. The difference will be more pronounced with programs that can use the 64 bit architecture (like crysis). I noticed a nice speed difference between the two.

I've been jumping back and forth between Vista Business and XP Pro for a while and I'm surprised how Vista has improved since the last time I tried it out.
For example, with Age of Conan I'm getting around a 30% increase in FPS in Vista vs XP Pro. Currently I'm dual booting both on different hard drives ( I have no idea why I didn't do this before lol). -
To switch between 32- and 64-bit versions, you need to wipe one completely, get the disc for the other one and install it. There is no in-place upgrade process for that. You can use the same key on 32- and 64-bit versions though.

How much does it cost to change from 32-bit to 64-bit?

linux isnt have bad either...its a good alternative to vista, but compatibility to some windows programs can be a pain. otherwise its something godo to tinker around with

shipping and handling i think?

Vista is teh shiznit! XP FTW

why do people say XP>Vista? They both crash as much. True people with older machines dont have the hardware for vista, so if you dont, dont upgrade.
otherwise then that, vista took hardware up to the next level. with its release, computer retailers and companies significantly improved the specs on their notebooks so they could run vista fine. without a price hike if im not mistaken.
i dont think that a new windows was NEEDED, but it happened and its not that bad now. sure we had drivers and compatibility issues early on, but now? nah -
i myself prefer vista over xp. after using vista, when i use xp it is a little weird at first.but i think vista looks better and runs better.i mean i have to reformat my xp comp at least 5 times cause of viruses, haven't seen one virus yet on vista, tho i know with time there will be some.i also like the way you can customize vista easier.
