    I was wondering for you people who have bought Windows Vista Ultimate was it worth it and exactly what is the different between Unlimited and Premium (do not link me to the Microsoft website, its useless to me)

    EDIT: If my laptop only has Vista Premium 32bit is it worth it to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 64 bit?

    ultimate...
    -has all the business features form business I believe
    -the extra's like poker...
    -dreamscene which allows you to play a video as your background rather than a jpeg.
    -there is like 30-40 language packs that you can download

    is it worth it? I don't think so(I own it). but if you want to show off to your friends and can find a use for the extra's... maybe it is.

    Sorry for the typo you guys.
    What if I was getting Vista because I wanted a 64bit OS rather than 32bit

    you can install any version of Vista either 32 or 64 bit.

    Ultimate, is good, but not worth the big price. If you can get it discounted closer to Home Premium or Business prices, then go for it.

    Or if you're in high school/university, check if your school is part of the MSDN Academic Alliance: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/academic/default.aspx, get some nice free software. For example, I've already downloaded (all that I remember offhand) (keys included):
    - XP Pro SP2
    - Vista Business
    - Microsoft Visio (2007?)
    - MS Visual Studio Professional 2007

    If you have access to a free version of Home Premium (i.e. it comes with your laptop/desktop and you have no other options), get that. If you have a choice between multiple versions of Vista and each of them are free options, get Ultimate. If you are questioning whether or not it's worth it to have Vista Ultimate, you probably do not need it.

    Ultimate is great if you use the remote desktop connection between the desktops or you need bitlocker. Otherwise I don't see the need for it.

    Vista Unlimited...

    Reminds me of when Conroe hit the scene man, I remember seeing all these "CORE NEO" and "CORE NERO" subject titles... haha.

    OH, and no it ain't worth balls. I own it. I didn't have to pay for it, the good people at HP hooked it up after my old laptop melted. But comparing it to Home Premium they are basically one in the same. Although, hmm, it does look cool when you see ULTIMATE on the login screen... lol.

    Home Premium is the best version for the majority of users. It just depends if you need the other abilities such as to use remote desktop to connect to your computer or ability to join a domain.

    Ultimate= Aesthetics+Added Security.
    ME=OS+Eyecandy+Security
    =Ultimate x64

    Dreamscenes are cool, but you don't want to stare at them all day and watch how it majestically fries your CPU :)

    It's worth it only if you can get it for free or an EXTREMELY reduced price.

    LOL, so true :D If you can live without the extras and media center, but need the security go for Business.

    Best way to put it would be:
    Windows XP Home = Windows Vista Home Basic
    Windows XP MCE = Windows Vista Home Premium
    Windows XP Professional = Windows Vista Business
    Windows Vista Home Premium + Business + Extras = Windows Vista Ultimate

    And thus far I really don't need the Media Center. A real pain for me personally to set up on a multiple display system, maybe I just haven't spent enough time with it. With the exception of Dream Scene, the Ultimate Extras are just sort of neat.

    Guys, I don't think that he realizes that he can get 64bit Home Premium.

    This sounds more like a 32bit-64bit thread than Home Premium-Ultimate.

    lol, if that's all it is you don't even need to buy a whole new copy, just a new x64 install disc which costs about $7 +s/h.

    Dreamscene is pretty cool. wincustomize ftw.

    But when i think about it, Ultimate is not worth it for the average user. Go for HP x86, you won't be disappointed.
