From what I have seen when I use computers that have it, I do not like Vista very much. But do to circumstances beyond my control (A really nice Deal on an Inspiron Laptop) I will have Windows Vista on my new laptop.

All I really do on my computers is surf the net, play games, and do homework. Sometimes I mess around with photoshop but that's about it. Here is a list of the games I play -

    StarCraft
    StarCraft Brood War
    Dibalo
    Diablo 2
    Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction
    WarCraft 3 Reign of Chaos
    WarCraft 3 Froven Throne
    World of Warcaft/Burning Crusade
    Halo
    1602 A.D.

I have heard people say on other sites that Vista isn't gaming friendly but they didn't elaborate. So I'm wondering if I should go to the trouble of getting Vista uninstalled and Xp installed or should I be ok with what i plan on useing it for and just finaly embrace the Dark.... er side of Windows?

    I have a 1520 since monday and I'm 80% satisfied with Vista.

    Pros:
    - Its faster than XP...no matter what others say my d610 was never such fast with XP as this 1520 is with Vista...it boots up really fast.
    - Looks nice
    - Most things run fine

    Cons:
    - Some games have issues (Simcity 4 has some graphic corruption, Panzers Phase I had some problems installing, but works now)
    - Open office has problems with the mouse wheel...but in Windows it works fine

As for surfing the net and photoshop it seems ok, the games you mentioned could have trouble...I haven't tried those...

I'm hopeing that since the majority are older games that they should play fine.

Best way to answer your question is to make up your own mind. As you said, the laptop comes with Vista... Use it for a while and if you want to go to XP go to XP otherwise stick with Vista...

No one on this planet can give you a solid "yes" or "no" as to what Vista will or won't do for you. For all we know you could go ape **** about how Vista re-did the start menu or something...

Most of those games are old they will all run just fine on vista.

I play wow and wc3 on vista and they both work just fine. Vista is here to stay and over time drivers will continue to mature and support will only get beter. Right now it is more then usable.

For games, long story short. As long as you know what your doing and know how to use google at times you'll find that 90% of games run on it. And games that don't... (IE. Netplay RedAlert 2)
PS. Expect better performance after SP1 I'd say. It's kidna buggy at times.

It's faster on XP than newer systems.
My desk has P4 3.2Ghz HT and it runs games good but its sluggish at times. I still like it but then again I still like Linux the most of all OS's. I find that web pages load slower but I think it's my beta firewall.
But in the case of my grandma's new pc that consists of 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo it's really fast (Havent had a chance to try XP on it).
Though even though some sections of Vista are slow on my processor and my deskie still gets a 3DMark score of 3500-4000 after 6 year's I'd say I'm happy.

Then it isn't. The OS is there to suit *you*, not the other way around. If you don't like it, it is not worth using.
By the way, as far as I know, Dell does offer to replace Vista with XP. Have you tried contacting them about it? Otherwise, of course, you could buy it with Vista, and either give it a try and see what happens, or move an existing XP license to the new computer.

Yeah, I just wanted to have an idea of what to expect when I started loading software and getting to know Vista. I mean if the games work fine and I can still do everything else I like to do I will grit my teeth and bare with the changes they've made.

Wow... lot of people posted while I was typing.

I did try to get it changed to XP, but then they said that would change it back to the original price of 1,364. So I stuck with the Vista to get the 325 dollars off.

My friends that have it are ameture programers and such. I'm kinda holding out on the thought its what they've done to vista that I don't like and when I get the real thing i will halfway like lol.
