Quick question:
If you install Windows 7 RC, and downloaded all the latest updates, wouldn't it just be like the RTM version (apart from the RC version expiring sometime in 2010)? Are all windows updates the same for both the RC and the RTM?

No. RC != RTM, patches won't fix that.

The RTM version can be fully activated, and it literally the same bit-for-bit as what you will get with an install DVD from a retail shop starting 10/22.
The RC was the 'almost ready to go edition' whose programming is designed to cease functioning after a specific cutoff date. Can't remember when, but you'll know when it happens. -
And yeah, RTM means Release to Manufacturing. It's literally the version they send to OEMs and it's the image they actually write to the retail install discs.
