hello! i have a simple question on backing up my files... started at 8:31AM this morning and at this minute im burning cd #16. is it my slow computer, is this average or what?

also, at the "Back Up Files" where it says "Backing up files", the bar is only half way through. at around 50%, "Copying files to E:\"... its only half way through?! do i need another 16 dvd????????

this is my second back up as the first time, it took too damn long, so i stopped it and forgot to ever back up till yesterday... my C drive has a total of 103gigz with only 8.5gigz free.

(103-8.5)/(4.3) ~= 21 DVDs or so. And that is DVDs. You'd need many more CDs. And that isn't even including whatever is on your E drive.

    External HDD...buy one :D.

If you have several computers, you might consider buying a very large external drive, or any of the one-touch backup systems, so you can back-up each PC. You can even get NAS versions that do incremental backups across your home network, for multiple machines.

haha! that makes me think a bit.. i'd be considered the janitor of the computers in our household... my sisters 2006 Xp home is rotting. something is horribly wrong with the computer(wont play DVD's and connect to the internet without less than 1.5 gigz of RAM-stock was 256mb). the same went for our pentium I in 1996...
but yes! i'll look upon hard drive's and systems and what not to ease the burden of disk burning... and money being wasted...
    thanks much for the tip!

An external disk will be much easier to use, and it will be cheaper in the long run, not to mention the pain in doing backups to CD/DVD, as well as all the useless plastic you'll be generating. Yes, hard disks can crash, but rarely would BOTH of them crash at the same time (the one inside your computer and the one you use for backups).

When you're not doing backups to the external drive, make sure you unplug it from the computer and the electricity.
