Yes its always good to clean install.

HPs and Sonys come with so much bloatware that it slows down the computer by like 40%.

Its can be a pain getting hold of a Vista disc though.

Sony computers are extremely bad when it comes to bloatware. It took me about 2.5 hours to remove it all from my sister's new FZ.

Make a DVD of the recovery partition so that you can reclaim the space. Before you install Vista, make sure you have all the drivers you need.

    To install Vista:
    1) Obtain the drivers for your model from manufacturer's website
    2) Back up your data
    3) Pop in your Vista disc; when the BIOS splashscreen, select the optical drive as your boot device
    4) Follow the Vista installation

If you still want a factory recovery DVD, you would have to use the partition to completely restore your computer, then create the DVD. But, that would be very time consuming.

There is an excellent guide in the HP section that you may want to take a look:

Yes I know it's for no activation, but since you're installing a new Ultimate, you can still follow this guide, just disregard the activation backup part.

I don't know exactly about HP (don't own one!), but technically if you don't delete the recovery partition or already burned a recovery DVD, you will still able to do built-in recovery later (in case something goes wrong).
