Welcome to NBR, notideal! As you can see we are currently having some problems with our forum, but we're working on them. Feel free to re-post your question in this thread as making a new thread just doesn't always work well.
Anyway as to your question. Password protecting the user account is just one of several security layers you'll want on a PC. It isn't necessary but it is a first layer against those who might try to access your PC without permission.

Necessary, but if it'll prevent your friends from pulling bad pranks on you (#1 reason) or annoy the hell out of whomever steals your laptop, it's worth it.

It's nice not having the login screen and avoid that one step, but having a second account available can help if something goes awry with the first.

If you live in Fort Knox then maybe no password is needed but in this time and age anyone coming in as admin without password lock is asking for trouble and disaster. It might be a nuisance to have it but then you can control whom has access and when they can use your computer. That is why you created a user account with limitation not another Admin account -that should be the owner aka Admin account that gets the privileges to make those changes. This is to also avoid malware/Virus taking over the system as well.
Is it necessary to have your windows user account password protected?
